2017 X3

Folks,

Any thoughts on this x3? It's a 2017 X3 3.5 with very low (kind of strangely low) miles. California car. MSport, but no sport suspension. And, alas, it's black:

My first reaction was seems pricey and I would hate the black interior in the south, but after browsing autotrader it doesn't look too bad. I haven't spent any time in the last gen platform, but the new one is really well done.

Any thoughts on this one:

Miles are great, from what I see it looks like a great car ... I would ask the dealer to confirm in writing there is no paintwork and no accidents, if they respond with ‘it has a clean car fax’ I would still want the confirmation in writing being I know my sons A3 car fax didn’t show accidents because I paid for them and that A3 looked perfect but was a mess.

Also I wouldn’t be concerned about the mileage, my 83 year old mom has a Lexus NX300 sport that is 4-5 yrs old with under 10k miles ... the build is ridiculously sporty plus it’s white with a red interior .... you would think a young person owned it.

I'd love the next generation with the B58 engine, but I'm very wary of the first model year...

That's a good point. It's hard even trying to do test drives now. This car looks to me to have been owned by someone with two small children. The back seat still has impressions of two cars seats...

I've rented a house, so the two dogs and kid shuffling is about to get very real...

Looks like a nicely equipped car. My guess is you could probably get another 10% off the list price. The paint color looks like it might actually be "carbon black" which is like a very dark blue. One of my favorite BMW colors. This vehicle was actually my "dream spec" when I was searching for an ex-demo 2017 x3 to lease back in early 2018. At the time, i couldn't find anything close to it. As far as suspension, my x3 had the standard suspenion as well--and I loved the ride quality. Some lean in corners but that's to be expected. Honestly, I think it rode a bit better than my current RRS. I think you'll be very happy with it.

Might want to watch this for 2 days and see what comes of it. Although, if I had to pick between a 4cl wagon and a 6 cyl x3, I'd probably take the x3.

That dealer moves a lot of nice vehicles on BAT

I am tending to agree. There's a wagon in Charleston for about the same $$ as the X3, plus it has sport suspension. But I'm not sure about logistics these days and I wouldn't want to buy without a test drive.

The price on this 2017 X5 keeps dropping, too. But it's still a chunk more change: https://www.unitedbmw.com/inventory/...kr6c37h0u13020

And then there's this new Golf Alltrack, that probably could be had for $25k: https://www.stonemountainvw.com/inve...m17au6km522993

I really watned the wagon when we got our x3 as well. My wife pushed for the X3 and honestly i'm glad I did. After several test drives, i realized that I didn't like the F30's vague on center steering and found the seats less comfortable. Plus, the inline 6 is just so much nicer than the 4. That's something you'll enjoy every day. The wagon looks way cooler and has a slightly better built interior but dont let that sway you too much.

I have a 2016 X5 50i that could be yours if you can wait a little bit...

Hmmm. Shoot me the details when you can. I do strongly favor the 2017 infotainment refresh, but could be persuaded perhaps. I have already told my ex, if she wants to sell hers to check with me first...But if she's smart, she holds onto it.

Plus, I thought yours was a lease?

zach 03-31-2020 09:03 AM

Not a lease, though I'll probably lease the next one (was supposed to be doing that for an X5 or X7 m50i this month, but obviously not happening).

2016 X5 50i
Carbon Black / Black
M Sport
19 inch wheels
36K miles
exec pack - soft close doors, comfort access, a bunch of other stuff
Dynamic handling
LED lighting pack
Lane change assist / whatever. It doesn't have the radar cruise or self driving stuff.
leather dashboard
heated and ventilated seats
heated steering wheel
black exterior trim

I think it has a few other random things but those are the highlights - it was a BMW exec car in NJ before I had it. Best car we've ever owned.

seems like the n55 version of the X5 might be the sweet spot of price / value. I found the same thing when we got ours.

Do you trust these Vroom cars?

Thanks, Zach. I'm actually more drawn to the X3. I've never loved driving big cars. And I think the X3 is all I really need.

I don't blame you - would totally do an X3 in your situation. I like the new ones a lot.

Used cars are used cars.

Carmax and Carvana both let you "return" cars and don't seem to make you jump through a lot of hoops to do so. Does Vroom?

Nice car. Why are you guys thinking of selling it?

Just an FYI, I am toying with the idea of selling my 2017 F15 xDrive35i, 42XX miles. Priority 1, built early May 2017, PCD early June 2017.

Interesting. How is it speced? And, welcome back! You're on Knoxville, right? How's your Z3?

Thanks! We've had it for about three years and the warranty is set to end. My plan was to lease an X5 or X7 this month but going to wait a while now.
