Went to crystal cove beach for a bit, it was ok, but didn't seem anything special. I guess there are some stories to the shacks... We didn't shuttle, just walked from the parking lot.

Then, with some sense of beach town and good amount of luck, found a great swim spot in Laguna Beach. Stairway going down to the sea among steep cliffs and a somewhat protected deep cove where people seemed to swimming, even snorkeling... A very nice memorable swim. I think it's called Wood's Cove, not really labeled. For parking we just went a couple of blocks on the inland side of PCH.

As to the parking, we found a spot within 2min walking distance of our hotel. Seems like a corporate parking lot, and when I press the button at entry, it says 'Free Passage'... :)
I'll take my chances, anyway we are leaving before the workweek starts.
