License plate question

I have BMW CCA tags on my M3. If I sell my M3 some amount of time before I take delivery of another car to replace it (I'm talking weeks or months, not days), what can I do to keep the same tags? Anything? Or am I stuck requesting new ones?

Does MD allow transfering of plates, like FL does? I'll bet that you could remove the plates, and then do the transfer paperwork once your new car arrives.

You'll probably have to keep paying ins. and then transfer the tags.

Do you Marylanders own the plates, or does the State control their use in all circumstances?

You might hit your State DMV or BMV website for more info. Often times they have FAQ's that address situations like this.

You can transfer the tags. There's a place on the title application to do that. The issue is having continuous insurance coverage on a vehicle. Which I've ignored several times.

Yup. Otherwise you pay a $150/day penalty.

You just have to prove that as of the date you disposed of the car you had insurance coverage.

the tricky thing about this is that the National Capital Chapter of the BMWCCA is the gatekeeper for the tags TD is talking about. I am guessing that his biggest concern is keeping the number that he has. MVA's website is so pathetic as to be next to useless. I'd call MVA and see where they are on it. I'd also send an email to Steven (Schlossman, or however you spell it) to get you in touch with whoever is handling that function for the club.

This would only make sense if you were to purchase another BMW. Interesting...
