MAF and Throttle body cleaning

Yesterday I finished a bunch of preventive maintenance stuff on the Miata as it has 9.5 years and 95k miles now.

- Accessory belt
- Thermostat housing
- Coolant tank
- Coolant flush
- MAF and throttle body cleaning

The MAF and TB were both pretty dirty. The TB had to come out for the (PITA) thermostat job, so I figured I'd clean it. The thing is, this is my first time cleaning such items on any car.

People claim it improves idling, mpg, etc. I drove the car around to check the cooling system and did not notice a big difference, but I am curious how often (if at all) you guys do this.

Anyway, the Miata should be good for a while other than diff and transmission fluid changes that were done last at the 60k mile service in 2014. That will wait until next year.

Unless the actual MAF element is fouled (i.e. by oil from a K&N filter), I have never noticed a meaningful change from cleaning either. I still will do it if they're dirty.

I did the same clean to the e39 528i (with vague hopes). No change but no harm done either.
