It gets rear doors and a raised rear roof section to create a five-door liftback shape, which, in M2 Gran Coupé form, promises to be a more practical performance offering than the regular M2.

but will we get it stateside? BMW does not like bringing over hatchback/wagons anymore. Also the article is kind of confusing, seems like this could be the fwd 2 series.

Yeah, who knows what will come out of this. And how badly they will screw it up.

But I'm always intrigued by the idea of a small, sporty sedan. Let me dream. :D

The Merc and Audi are both available here, right?

"A BMW for every segment" should be the new tag line.

Biggins 02-02-2018 01:47 PM

It won't be in my price range, but I'm very interested in what this car could be!

I could be interested as well. After having my 4-door for so long I think I would miss the two extra doors at this point. 2011 M3 sticks are holding there value extreamly well and are very hard to find.

If this actually comes to the states and doesn't suck, I might have a hard time resisting.

To put it in context, more E30 M3s were built than E90 M3s. And sticks were a fraction of that. The slicktop/no nav pool is even smaller.

I still maintain that ZCP is a pretty worthless package, but it’s important to some people.

What's special about the 2011?

Nothing, really, aside from the fact that it’s the last year and the ZCP package was available.

2008 and 2011 were the big year’s of production. 2009 and 2010 were a lot lower.

IF it's based on the current M2, then this car should be a slam dunk. But, I thought I'd read that the 2 series gran coupe body style would debut w/ the next gen 1/2 series platform which will be FWD based (likely on the same platform as the Mini/x1/etc).

Torn, as I am about to pull the trigger for an order on an F80. But I cannot wait for this to maybe become a reality.

I’m hearing allocations for F80 are drying up - do you have one lined up? If not you better act quickly.

rumatt 02-26-2018 11:09 PM

This is not Gran Coupe specific, but this forum doesn't allow searching for "M2", so...

I had read the rumors that the M2 would have a "CS" version coming out for 2019 that contains the S55 engine. What I didn't realize is that assumption is this will *replace* the existing M2, not augment it. So the N55 M2 s soon dead.

So the M2 will soon be faster, more expensive, and more fartier sounding.

Theo 02-27-2018 12:11 PM

Maybe killing used M2 prices while we’re at it.

rumatt 02-27-2018 01:03 PM

That would be nice.

The current owners are claiming their car is a classic and their resale values won't be affected. :kekeke:

If the new one is priced in the stratosphere they might be right.

FC: don't you want a sedan to put the kids in? Also vaporware vs. plans. Just do YMB so I can be a buyer later. Prefer no sunroof, but not a dealbreaker.

Funny. Someone in the adjacent company just got an M3 in YMB. It's not a bad color, but I much rather have Sakhir. It's too light a blue.

Let's just say I never warmed up to Laguna Seca blue for the same reason, so YMB this is farther from ideal than closer.

If they had offered LeMans or Imola, I would have rather taken one of those.

I never liked these clown colors... At all.

Give me a nice dark blue, please.

Don’t like the dark, dark blues. Really happy with estoril, but I wouldn’t want to go any lighter. YMB is too light, IMO.
