I do recall the ZHP being best at 6-6.2krpm, but I never tracked it.

The zhp certainly felt more fun to redline than the regular n54, perhaps due to the cams. It just loved to rev, though I doubt I ever passed 6.5 or thereabouts, I regularly saw 6k in that car and rarely do so in others (though the 2009+ porsches are very revvy as well).

I don't think that the damper is, although aftermarket oil pump setups are legal, and I *think* the tensioner is as well. IIRC, in race form, high RPM durability of the M54 remains iffy even with all of that. There's a huge difference between occasionally touching the rev limiter and running it out in 4th gear.

Also you guys not redlining your engines are weird. :)

Yeah I can't relate to that either :D

I redline my engines plenty - except for the LR4 (although I do make sure to take it high in the rev range occasionally).

I just don't recall the power build all the way to redline on the ZHP like it did on the 987S or Miata, for example. Even the F80 seems to keep power building or at least maintaining power higher up the rev range. Then again, I last drove the ZHP almost exactly 11 years ago.

The ZHP revved fine to the limiter. IIRC, they didn't make more power there, but they certainly made more power than they would after upshifting.

That was the common thinking three or four years ago. The oil pump tensioner seems to solve the majority of the issues though, which generally are chain-slap related.

I revved that car to redline for sure. The power build up tapered at the end, that's all.

Well, SE46 predates that. :)

Glad to hear that that is hopefully a solved problem.
