There's a 911T for sale at the local Porsche dealer that I've thought about looking at (it's orange!), but I keep coming back to the above.

I don't know. The 911 market is so hot right now that even the '06 on BaT is likely to fetch 45+. That's a lot of scratch for a 15 year old car, and I have the same internal conversation with myself about whether I'd enjoy or use it any more than I do my similar vintage Boxster (for which I might be able to get half that, maybe).

Part of me is resigned to just never owning a 911, but another part of me is pissy about that since it's been a bucket list car for me for 35 years at least.

Ooo. Orange 911T. Buy it and keep it forever.

Is there a reason you're so enthused with buying a car on BAT vs finding your diamond on rennlist, PCA, etc? I hope that doesn't come off sounding rude, I'm genuinely trying to understand if there is real value in the higher than market BAT sale price and website fees that are charged or if it just a cool website that has a ton of interesting cars in one place.

It’s a cool website with a ton of interesting cars. If I were super serious about looking for a 911, I’d be trolling all those other places, too, but I’m kind of screwing around—if the right Gelandewagen or 911 or even 928 comes over the transom, I’ll do it, but I’m not motivated to really search.

Plus bidding in the auctions is sort of fun.

When we're discussing blue over tan sports cars... this is more along the lines of what dances around in my head:

Ha, I was just looking at that, and kind of day dreaming, but for the love of god as much as I want a Ferrari the shitty engineering associated with that car just pisses me off. An engine out service every 5 years? A $25,000 service on a 25,000 mile car?? What in the actual ever loving fuck. I mean, people freak out about the IMS bearings in 996s, but that's a flaw and very unlikely to happen and it *still* costs less to fix a grenaded engine than you would expect to pay in routine maintenance on your Ferrari.

That's just dumb.

Also, did you see the seats? Once again, that car has 25,000 miles on it, and it looks like the interior was mauled by the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal. The Boxster has twice the miles and looks roughly 100 times better.

Owning that car would give me angina.

I've been similarly casually shopping old Ferraris as well - the interior on this one isn't really an outlier. I think it's the years and not the miles. Josh - look at a 456 maybe. They are v12 and neat and seemingly in the trough of their depreciation curve.

How about a 75,000 mile 550 Maranello?
