My g/f and I rented scooters when we took a vacation on Block Island, off the coast of Rhode Island. They're fun, but that's the only time I'd ride them. I can't even imagine riding those things in the city. Slower than molasses going uphill in winter, and the fact that they're even harder to see than a motorcycle, I think they're even WAY more dangerous, imo.

While I'll possibly check out some w650's and perhaps Triumphs this weekend, I think that may be the wrong direction for my needs. This is the kind of riding that we mostly do out here: We just worry about an occasional coyote that darts out on the road.

We're so lucky that once we're out of our housing development, we have wide open desert riding. There's nothing like riding and looking out over vast terrain, not having to worry about friggen traffic that's out to kill you, and just being lost in your own thoughts. The Sierra Nevada mountain range (where scenic Lake Tahoe is located) is only minutes away if we want to do some mountain carving. We are so very lucky that the Reno/Tahoe area is very motorcycle-friendly.

Me three (but then again I agree with most everyone)... I don't get heavy duty motorcycling. I'd get a miata instead. I just spent the last hour zipping around the city, multiple stops, haircut, a high/low octane experiment (bike does not like high octane) etc. etc. A fun, zippy 15 miles. Cannot imagine how it would feel (and how hard it would be) in one of those giant things. Sort of like driving an RV for errands. |

 I wear these... (On me as I type) 14oz Heavy Duty Denim Reinforced stretch resistant woven DuPont™Kevlar / Teramid™ Protective knee lining with built-in pockets for optional CE rated armor The knee armor is slightly off, but gets into position when my leg is bent, not sure if my leg will be bent or straight whilst hitting the pavement... At least they are comfortable. Not the ultimate pant, but hopefully better than regular jeans. |

No argument here... both of my buddies had pretty bad road rash. I imagine the type of jeans matters a lot. This was probably 15 years ago, when pretty much all jeans were 100% cotton. Today I imagine that's less the case. |
