Team WTF?! RX-8 For Sale:
$22,500

Set up for SCCA Solo B Stock. If you want a complete turnkey autocross solution, this is the car!

The world famous, star of the Team WTF?! videos is up for sale! Original owner. There were 2 miles on the odometer at the beginning of the test drive the morning it was purchased new in late 2003. It's a great car for autocrossing. It's incredibly fun to drive, class dominant, and has enough room to pack tires, two people, and all the needed gear (plus some) for travel events. Frankly, the car is better than its regular drivers have been. The car is being sold because I'm ready to try something new, like buying a tow vehicle/family hauler and driving someone else's car for a while.

One thing that needs a quick mention is the bumper. You may notice that it's a gray car, but has a yellow front bumper. There's no reason to be concerned. The original gray one has been sitting in my basement since May of this year, not getting rock chips and not getting cone scratches. It will be going back on the car the weekend of October 28. The buyer can take the yellow bumper or leave it with me to dispose of.

More info, photos and videos at TeamWTF.org (http://teamwtf.org/content/view/226/89/)

As an extra special gift, the buyer will also receive the special edition DVD that SUCCA doesn't want you to see... The 2005 Team WTF?! Year in Review (http://teamwtf.org/content/view/173/63/) and Team WTF?! 2006: The Story So Far (http://teamwtf.org/content/view/220/63/) videos on DVD. This car is the RX_8 featured in both videos. If you liked them on your computer screen, just wait until you see them on your big screen TV at home! All you have to do is buy the car. :D

PM me here or email me through the Team WTF?! site. Thanks for your interest!

You think that's low or high?
I'm guessing that he thinks it's too high. If it were a totally stock car, I'd agree. But that's not what this car is.

This car is a complete, proven, turnkey autocross solution with many extras such as:

1 set of custom race wheels (~$2,200 new)
1 set of custom double adjustable Koni shocks (~$2,400 to duplicate)
2 sets of race tires that are only halfway through their useful lives (~$850 combined market value)
1 custom built and optimized 5 way adjustable front anti-roll bar (~$250 or more to duplicate not including time, effort, and expense of figuring out spring rates, design and fabrication requirements)
1 custom lightweight exhaust (~$200 in parts to duplicate plus labor to cut, fit and weld)

Altogether, that's about $5900 in parts to duplicate as a set not including the various other bits and spare parts that total up to another few hundred dollars. Take that all away and you're looking at about $16,600 for the car on its own. Edmunds trade in value for this car with its options and mileage is over $17,500. This is a hell of a sweet deal for someone looking for a complete turnkey autocross solution.

The car will be totally stock by early next week. If someone wants to buy it in autocross trim before it's traded in on an SUV (probably the weekend of November 11), it can be reconverted in just a few hours. If not, the parts will be sold separately (and there is a long list of people begging for the parts) and the combined return on the car and parts should be significantly higher than $22,500.

A few additions to the extra parts list:
* 1 set of OE Bridgestone Potenza RE040s (225/45-18) with 8/32"
* 1 set Magnecor spark plug wires (brand new, never used)
* 1 lower lip (brand new, never installed)

I thought it was a good deal - even if I don't compete with it.

A brand new, stripped down RX8 is like 26K.

Considering I sold my 1 yr old RX8 with around 4k miles (and leather which I think clyde is missing ) for around $23 TO $24K (not quite sure of the exact number) I would say the price is super high.

The unfortunate reality is aftermarket add on's knows do not add to the price of a used car unless you find that buyer who is in the 1% range who just happens to be looking for this exact car.

If anything they diminish the value.

For an autox'er, the car is a steal.

For anyone else, it's silly.

Lucky for Clyde, he's marketing towards that 1%.

I don't recall him asking if anyone thought it was priced "fairly"

Or he'll strip the parts, trade in the car, and recoup a higher percentage of the original cost of the aftermarket parts.

That's a great idea

It definitely would work out better for clyde ... he can probably sell off most of those parts pretty easily on the RX8 forum or ebay ...

Damn Clyde ... aren't you happy we all discussed this and came out with a good conclusion :D

IO was just kidding around ...

In the words of a wise man .... Dude, this is the interwebnets. If it ain't hyperbole and passing the time on a slow day, it ain't what it's meant to be.

If there was a chance this car would be sold on this site I would not post anything negative about the price since it would hurt the possible sale but being we are all buds here and we have nohting else too important to discuss today I was just pointing out I think the price is on the high side for a regular 3 yr old rx8 but hey ... if an auto x'er grabs this car than the price is a bargain ...

That sounds about right for the automatics (which are less powerful, lower reving, 16" wheels, open dif, softer suspension, etc)

Not really sure what to ask for it now that it is completely bone stock. Exhaust went back on today (ramps only were fine), driver's seat bottom was replaced, melted exhaust shroud replaced with mint one...and the bumper and shocks were already done.

Tomorrow morning, the car gets a good vacuum, interior wipedown, quick wash and then I go to carmax to look at something else while they appraise the car. Then I'm headed over to the Silver Spring Autopark to meet someone and we'll be looking at some big SUVs (Armada, Durango, Suburban/Yukon XL). With some luck, I'll be leaving the RX-8 at one of those places and coming home in something with better fuel mileage. ;)

I just don't have the energy to make the effort to try to sell it private party. Selling it as an autox car to someone that might let me codrive it in the future was one thing.

Still, I'd listen to anyone that's interested somewhere around $19k, negotiable, if I still have it come Saturday evening.

I just checked Galves (the book the dealers use here in NY) trade is around $15000.

Ebay's completed listings seem to have them sold for $16,500 to $17,900

I would look to get $17,500 to $18,000 which really isn't bad for you for 3 yrs of depreciation

Hope this info helps you out ...
