Fabulous pics, Sean!

Btw, any idea how many pistons are those calipers?

I'm pretty sure they are 4-piston calipers. I think the SL55AMG may get the 6-piston calipers, but I'm not sure.

I just found out today that the E500's get 4-piston calipers an 13" rotors up front but E320's (and likely E320 CDI's) get a single floating piston on a 12.3" rotor. That sounds to me like a BIG difference.

it's nice to see them put that sort of stopping power on the E500 wagon --it would certainly need it as it is a bruiser.

i dunno if those are 4 pistons on the SL500, are they? maybe so (the McLaren has 8 up front/4 in back, so it wouldn't surprise me if they gave the SL 4 pistons).

On a different note (but related....)
My wife has sworn me to try to see if we can get an R107 (450SL/560SL) for her when the 420SEL dies.

In talking to my Mercedes friends, they are trying to steer me towards the R129 style (the one that came in 1991 through 2002).

I am not so sure... I just love the absolutely classic style the 107's had. That and they are similar enough to the 126's that I've had that I would be able to feel my way around under the hood well enough.

Either one would be a joy to drive I know.

Awesome car you have regardless.

I have a soft spot for the MB R129 (can you tell? :D ), but I would agree with you. The R107's seem easier to work on and they have classic lines. I just love all the SL's. If I were one of those guys with WAY too much money and could afford a collection of cars, I'd get one of each SL, with the Gullwing as the centerpiece. I'd do the same for 911's.

Correction: ALL E-class vehicles get front 4-piston calipers. It was a typo on the MBUSA website. E320's do get 12.3" rotors versus 13" on the E500's. That is pretty cool.

EDIT: The correction was incorrect. MBUSA just updated what they had gotten worng all along. Only the 500's get the 4-piston calipers as I originally mentioned.

I'd wouldn't mind having a 300SL Gullwing and a Roadster.
