Here is an excerpt from an article in the Washington Post. The topic of the article is why Washington's car show shouldn't be such a suck festival next to NAIAS:

"Yes, Detroit retains major significance in the car industry. But that industry is no longer headquartered in Detroit. It is now spread out all over the United States, with influential centers in Alabama, Kentucky, Ohio, Mississippi, North Carolina and South Carolina.

But, arguably, the most powerful place in the international automotive industry is in Washington, D.C., the place that makes the rules and passes the laws all car companies must abide by if they wish to sell a single vehicle in the United States, the world's most lucrative automotive market. "

ARRRGH! This is the kind of self-important bullshit that people inside the Beltway surround themselves with every day. Yes, we're so freaking important because we pass all these regulations that gum up the works and slow everything down. Maybe we can call Washington's auto show the CAFE Festival next year. Or NHTSAEx.

And the industry is no longer headquartered in Detroit? Where are the headquarters of Ford, GM and the US arm of DC located? Honolulu? We should have a big show in Greer, South Carolina maybe?

How does New York's show compare? I would imagine that to be a good place for another large exhibition.

That's just Warren Brown's insipid self. The guy can't write his way out of a glove compartment.

That it happens to appear to be what you speak of (and plagues everything else about this two bit trailer park town) is purely coincidental.

The best argument for a decent car show here is the affluence of the Metropolitan area. It is among the richest in the country.

Edit: Yes. And Warren Brown is in love with the sound of his own voice in his columns. Rarely does he relate much useful information. His online chats are equally devoid of information. He tries to cover his lack of expertise with his swaggering attitude.

The USAToday critic, who has his own biases, at least knows something about cars.
