This is the tail end of the summer Monsoon season in the desert southwest. For those of you that haven't experienced this weather pattern, the storms usually hit between late afternoon and early evening, and last anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour or so. The season starts in early July and lasts until mid Sept, with storms likely almost any day, and about 3 storms a week. For the last few days the storms have been enhanced by extra moisture from the former Hurricane John, which is now due south of AZ. We've had storms each of the last three nights, and the one on Sunday was VERY heavy, with wind gusts over 60MPH (it blew a tree and a Saguaro cactus down at my parents house).

Anyway, my wife and I went to see "Invincible" on Sunday evening. When we came out, a storm had hit and it was raining fairly heavily. As we made a mad dash to the car, we noticed a 1st gen CLK convertible parked a few spots away from us -- and they'd left the top down. As we were driving home, the storm got heavier, and probably dropped about an inch or rain into that CLK. Oops!

On a side note -- on the drive home, I had to slow way down as some of the dips in the road were huge puddles. Following ~50 feet behind the car ahead helped make the splash less, but I got too close to a car one lane over to the right on one puddle, and they splashed water up on the windshield continously for 4-5 seconds -- and I couldn't see at all. An a-hole in an Escalade behind me almost rear ended me (then decided to pass me by going into the opposing lane -- what an idiot). Amazing storm...
