had it done.

it was painless (my roof never showed any signs of delaminating to begin with, but it's a liability thing to have it done).

i have no idea what the noise is all about. i feel badly that some people had roofs fly off their cars, but i wonder in the age of the internet how many events actually happened versus how are perceived to have happened.

:dunno:

i guess people would argue that they never should have needed a recall in the first place. that would be a good point.

So what did they do on the recall?

I am trying to talk my client who is a Vette guy into getting a Z06...

so I can do donuts in it.

the underlying problem is that the characteristics of the two metals are very different. i think there is steel webbing and then the roof itself is magnesium alloy and sits on that steel frame. and what they used from the factory is some sort of adhesive. well, what they found is that people in hot and humid areas sometimes found the roof separating from the underlying webbing/frame.

so the first fix is to open up the roof and inject foam adhesive in the middle and on the perimeter a different epoxy to hold the roof panel in.

failing that, people are now getting what is called the SMC roof (sheet molded composite) which is slightly heavier than the magnesium alloy piece but has better bonding properties, supposedly.

all i had done today was the foam injection and new epoxy. :dunno:

i'm not really worried, though, because i'm planning to get CF for the roof panel and the hood soon, making all of this academic.........
