Looks like time to get new tires for the Roadster. Looking for a super tire, but must have excellent wet performance.

What are the top choices from say Hankook and Nitto???

We are right now looking at Michelin Pilot Spot PS2s ($804 per set) or Goodyear F1 GS-D3 ($714 per set).

And objective test reports (actual testing, not I love this tire stuff) of tires including those NOT sold by Tire Rack (Toyo, Hankook, Nitto)?

You're not going to find it.

FWIW, T1-R sidewalls are extremely sloppy, even with 255/40 stretched on 9.5" rims all around.

Alex and Clyde have Hankooks.

THE street tire of choice right now is an Advan something or other, all the ST competitors are running it and it's proven faster than everything else. The tread looks like it would do fine in water.


FWIW 2, I haven't really pushed them too hard, but so far I'm very pleased with the Kumho SPT.

The PS2s are damn good.

The Yoko is a nice tire, the Advan Neova AD07. But the PS2 and Goodyear F1 both beat it in the wet. And the PS2 is close in the dry.

I have PS2's on the M3 and they grip really well (for a street tire) on the track. I have not had them on the track when it was raining, but they also had very good wet traction during the heavy rains we had earlier this summer driving back and forth to Meade (lots of heavy braking when everyone on 495 decides to stop at a moments notice for no reason at all :irate:).

Can't compare them to the other tires on your list but they do have better wet traction than the S-03 Pole Positions I had on there originally.

Thanks. A polug is holding for now, but new tires are in the plans as the insides (front and rear ) are getting a bit low. I am leaning towards the PS2s, but for about $100 less the Goodyears look good also.

If you have not tried Bridgestones (RE050A Pole Position or 01R), you should really give it a go. I found that there is significantly more dry and wet grip on them than PS2s, they as good as the Falken 615s on the dry and better on the wet.

Gah, that's right. Make that 1 car with 040's, and one with 050's.

the F1 GS-D3s have renewed my faith in goodyear.

i run them on the V and they are decent. excellent in the rain and misty slick sort of road surfaces (not really raining, but slick enough to be a little scary). they wear pretty decently, too.

I found that they tramlined too much on rutted roads. Michelin Pilot Sports ride better and almost remove the tramlining. Their wet grip and sidewall feel maybe less though.

I echo the tramlining. There are a lot of ruts around my way from dump trucks and the RE040s suck it up bad.
