We're looking at a used Volvo V70R near Roanoke, VA and I'd appreciate any independent shop recommendations.

I was thinking something like the Volvo Club of America. I didn't dive very deep into the site, but I would bet that you might track down someone half-way intelligent there.

Didn't find anything searching those sites. And Google is (strangely) not finding squat. There is one Volvo dealership in town, but I have to assume they already know the car and might not be completely honest if there is something wrong.

Unless they are the seller, I don't see why they wouldn't be honest. If you pay them $100 or $200 or whatever, why wouldn't they tell you if something was wrong with the car?
