Hi All -

Back on Dec. 2nd, HACK, SONET and I had a chance to visit Goodyear Airship operations in (lovely) Carson, Ca. It should be noted this was the day before Spirit of America had the accident.

These shots were taken by SONET - have not seen HACK's yet. The Sun angle is a little tough this time of year

SONET was noticing that he thought the blimp seems so much smaller when you get close to it

more to come . . .

Kind of interesting in that the blimp is basically tied by the nose to a mobile (obviously anchored) stand in the middle of a circular pad.

It is left free to rotate around the center like a giant wind sock - notice how the support vehicles park near the center of the circle. While we were there, it changed directions back and forth for almost a 90 degree swing.

My pictures are better. :D

I'll get to them eventually, I'm buried DEEP in a sh*t load of work at work, a sh*t load of work at home, and all the escrow stuff bwteeen 2 houses. If you need it immediately I can burn it onto a CD and you can come pick it up or something, but they won't be processed (P'Shopped for color correction), at least not until next week.

I like this shot - can't wait to see HACK's

Before heading home, stopped by Carroll Shelby Enterprises - they are the Goodyear racing tire distributor for our region and support a lot of the pro races out here with those trailers (nice rig with the apartment in front).

That's cool. I think we're good for now. You take care of the move

Nice pictures-

Many many years back, I took a ride in one of the blimps.
It was a great way to see things. Low and slow.
The most surprising thing was how NOISY is was. Those two engines droning on just outside the gondola really make their presence felt.

Another thing I noticed is how much movement the pilots have to put into the controls.

I remember flying over our house and my Mom waving at us from the driveway.

I think I was in High School (maybe Jr High...???) when we got to go up.
That was one of those unique things that I'll always remember.

Maybe one day, we might get a lucky invite to do that (take a ride). As it was, to make it easy for them, we picked a day when it wasn't even scheduled to fly. But maybe one day . . .

Hey so are they letting you use that huge rig to take the car and stuff to the races? :D

I don't know. The last time we got near the thing, they had an accident the next day. The guy hasn't spoken to me since :(

Is it just me or do most of the pics/sigs/avatars in this thread not work?

Did those guys get petty and prohibit linking from here?

There was a hardware problem with the primary server. The site was down recently - they got that up, but then some of the other things weren't back like the gallery and the vendor page. Vendor page is back today, so hopefully the gallery will be back soon. That's where all my pics are linked to.

In the mean time, I've put them in the photo gallery here, and I'll link the thread to those pics tomorrow.
