View Full Version : Steptronic non-sport mode: does it suck on all cars?

It's really dreadful on our new 325iT.

Loud downshift clunks when braking to a stop, seemingly always sitting in one gear too high, with a reluctance to downshift that makes it feel like *really* bad throttle lag.

Meanwhile, sport mode is just about perfect. Very easy to control and predict with the accelerator, quick to respond, and smooth-shifting.

Thankfully, to this point, I don't have a lot of BMW slushbox experience. Is it just this way on 325s? Or is it just this car? Or just me? :dunno:

That is a car that needs the "Steptronic clunk" TSB applied. Depending on the car, you need one from Column A (http://www.tmk.com/transient/si240203.pdf), Column B (http://www.tmk.com/transient/si240303.pdf), or Column C (http://www.tmk.com/transient/si240403.pdf).

Nice. Wow. Perfect. That's exactly it. I had no idea, as I suppose I never paid attention to Step threads before. Guess I should have searched.

Thanks heaps.

Wait...let me get this right. You traded your 330i 5spd with a 325iT Step? :?

In any case, congrats! :P

You need the ZJC package on the 325iT.

:paranoid: The Steptronic 'clunk' is not present on manuals.
