yet another one - I must be truly addicted. Passed on some (what I think are) good cars among e90, e46M, r32 and s4. PM me if interested in those.

First observations:

(legend:
> -- better than
>> -- much better than)

Cloth > leather (very grippy)
4 doors >> 2 doors
New Mich PS >> Old Bridgestone RE040
NAV > no NAV (even though Garmin 2720 > BMWNav)
Mystic ? Imola (but dark colors look good on sedan)

To do:
- Clutch stop/cdv urgently necessary.
- Still need a lumbar solution (not ready to go the whole retrofit 9 deal)
- Nav crashes sometimes  (time for SW update?)

While at it - here's the subie that drove out with NO digging (only clearing snow off glass and opening door).:yikes:

And finally - my first one - just before I dropped it off to the new owner  (subie in background)

I shudder to think what changing the color of your car cost you.

As soon as you get ride of a car and replace it with the same thing a few days later.

Actually that's a valid point. Of course when I got out of my zhp, I didn't plan to get another one and actively resisted the idea for as long as possible. In the end, it came to a zhp or an e90. I like the e90 but that platform is likely in my future in some form or another anyway...

Very happy to have the solid sedan bodyshell (didn't want to believe this when I was a coupe owner) but it is quite noticeable, the framed doors must add stiffness. I have the folding seats and have seen the torsion numbers - I don't think they capture the difference in feel.

Thanks to everyone here for insightful comments.. The rx8 is wonderful, just a little hard as an only car for me. The M is wonderful, just a little too fast and flashy for the area that I live in.

Congrats.

I'l be replacing my RE040's (at least the rear ones) with MPS2's early this summer.

i hate bridgestone tires. they've actually sunk lower, IMO, than goodyears which have always been synonymous with 'overrated' to me.

equ ... just curious because you said you switch around cars alot ... are you paying for these cars out right and if not how are you doing this ?

The reason I ask is because I think you know I switch cars very often and being that it is rare to see another car nut do this I am wondering if we have the same way of thinking on these things

Depends. This one I bought outright at a dealer - though I tried to get them down as far as possible. I will lose more on this in the next couple of years than I would have on the 06 e90 that I found for $36-37k. But not everything is win or loss, I liked this car as a package from the color (as opposed to all those grays and blacks) to the cloth to nav to nice tires...

Last zhp was a lease with about 1k down and a great payment so it didn't hurt too bad. The only reason I leased was the MF of 0.0002. (.48% apr) If I'd owned it outright (from new) and sold it at the current market, I'd have been killed. Of course now that nj seems to have changed from taxing depreciated amount to FULL amount, leasing gets harder. That's 2-3k extra tax on a 40k-ish car!

The porsche I bought private party and sold private party in the same summer. After 4000 (fun but not crazy) miles I got a little more than my purchase price. With tax and some servicing, it ended up costing me 2-3k for the summer. That's unsustainable over a long time, but it was well worth it for the experience.

My audi I bought new and kept 4.5 years, sold private party at 50%.

In any of these, I really wasn't aiming for a quick turnaround. Such is life.

If you're on LI (somehow I remember that), we can maybe meet up one of these days. Best,

Equ

Good choice--I think you probably made the right call.

Sounds cool, I'm from Melville ...

It also seems like you did pretty well with your past cars ... I've gotten to the point I don't mind taking the hit when I go to sell my cars but what kills me is trying to find a nice 1 or 2 yr old used car with low miles and a reasonable price. It seems ok when I sell my cars for a bottom number but other people don't seem to want to take that hit and they price out their 1 or 2 yr old cars too high which than leads me to buying new instead.

In other words why would I buy a used car to save $5,000 over a new one :dunno: I wish I could find a decent deal on something fun like an M3 but the prices for them are insane ...

Exactly. Two examples. 2005 ci zhp/no nav/3000 miles, very nice shape. I offered him $36k (I think this is quite generous for a one year old car of old body style), the guy would not go under $38k. 2004 m3, owner would not go under $xx. I later found the same car cpo'd at a dealer asking $xx+5000. At the time I was quite seriously shopping for an M so I went to the dealer and offered them $xx. They accepted - I asked to think for an afternoon and ended up with the zhp instead.
