Because it's been a few weeks and no has mentioned it yet...

The state of Maryland has taken yet another jackbooted step down the path to becoming a totalitarian police state like it's neighbors to the south (not that DC is a state, mind you, nor should it even become one).

Speed cameras will be allowed in Maryland (http://www.gazette.net/stories/012506/montsta120711_31909.shtml)

Honestly, for all the bitching you guys do about Virginia, I think Maryland is worse.

DC is terrible. I cannot figure out why anyone would live in DC.

As far as my personal interactions with the law go, I can't say that Virginia and Maryland are all that different. What really gets me about this state is the property tax levied on vehicles; other than that, I'd have to say that the police have been at least technically correct in pulling me over each time. :p

Virginia is ridiculous, specifically Fairfax county. Nothing quite like that in MD.

Of course, MD is ridiculous in its own ways. Speed cameras, ugh. :(

Is Maryland ticketing cars for factory installed standard equipment (http://www.wjla.com/news/stories/0205/205812.html) because they think that their state definitions of certain terms trump federal definitions?

We are all in complete agreement about DC. Except for Nick.

Whenever you hear a public official say this, it's time to be VERY afraid:

‘‘It’s a simple concept: If you obey the law, you have nothing to worry about. If you violate the law, you have reason to be concerned,” said Duncan spokesman David S. Weaver.

BTW, Virginia is far worse, IMO. Between their outlawing of radar detectors, their laws treating speeding offenses more harshly than drunk driving offenses, HOV highway ramps that are closed too ALL traffic during non-peak hours, and the obvious and prevalent use of speed enforcement as revenue generation, it's no contest, IMO.

It's time to hop, skip, jump, fly, drive or whatever across the country imo. We don't have any of those problems. No snow, either.

Ditto here. Like I mentioned in another thread, we have cops around here as thick as flies on dog poo, and none of them has ever pulled someone over for breaking the law.

It seems like every time I open the paper I'm reading of the MD legislature overruling the Governor's veto for something. :irate:

Well... The city of Scottsdale is nearing the end of their calibration test of the speedcams on a ~6 mile stretch of freeway.

There are 6 sets of cameras in, 3 in each direction. Set to trigger at 76MPH (11 over the limit). Fines start to be issued next week.

The news this morning had a warning that if you trigger all 3, you will get 3 tickets, which would be enough points on your license to have it suspended...

Oh -- and these cameras are not radar or laser based -- they put sensors in the road to getcha... I will give them credit in that all the speed limit signs near the lights do say "photo enforced".

Sounds like it's time to get one of those rotating license plate gadgets that Frank had on his BMW 7 series in Transporter.

Don't you mean like on the AM DB5 used in Goldfinger :dunno:

Oh... the car in the pics is one of the original made for promotional use of the film... sold for $1.9MM at the auction... Sorry for some being out of focus... lighting was terrible...
