We at Vorshlag.com have purchased, tested and now posted a review (http://www.vorshlag.com/review_dl-1.asp) of the DL-1 Data Acquisition System. We used it with an eye towards autocrossers but it would work well for road racers as well. Not only does it have a GPS mapping feature and onboard accelerometers, it can also infer hp and measure 0-60, 60-0 and 1/4 mile accurately. We used at a practice autocross event that had a timed course and the DL-1 lap times were right on. This thing is pretty slick...

The DL1 is a small stand alone data logger that is easy to install and simple to operate. The logger has 7 analog channels of user definable sensors and utilizes Compact Flash cards for memory storage. A 2-axis accelerometer and 5Hz GPS-3 are built-in along with inputs for engine RPM, four wheel speed sensors, and one digital input. There's also a Serial (RS232) input for ECU or OBD-II data. In other words, we have plenty to play with. We've looked around but haven't seen a user review of this system like this that included software screenshots, product details, pictures and analysis. Check it out here (http://www.vorshlag.com/review_dl-1.asp).

terry,

any chance you can make the data available or send it to me?

I got one through the group buy the guy at elisetalk set up in December, but have only been able to log my drive to the subway. Would love to have a chance to look at something before we start running next month.

Thanks!

Thanks! We got ours in December through a groupbuy as well. There are lots of screenshots from our logged data on the review. :) Again, there's not much out there about the DL-1 or it's software, so we figured we'd put something up.

The software is... challenging. We've spent a dozen hours deciphering data and are still learning more each time. Once you get a hang of it (use the Help files) it is f'ing AWESOME.

We started out with trips around the neighborhood too, but we had a practice autocross event scheduled and used that day to log data on 5 different cars and 8 different drivers. EYE OPENING things were revealed about driving styles and different cars within the same solo2 class. It shattered preconceptions and egos alike. :D

Screenshots are static and not quite the same as playing with the data, as you know. ;)

Our first time actually using it will be at the SD Tour in a CTS-V. :D We're gonna have fun. :eeps:

Yep. It's just not the same on the screen as it is in real life.

I have road race data you can copy. Summit Point and VIR.

The BIG value of these is when you can get the data from someone faster than you and see where they are faster, and exactly by how much.

Which version of the software are you using? I have the latest (V6) but haven't played with it yet. I need to add some sensors and a digital dash to the SRF.
