He may be right about the death watch thing, Ford also revamped the Zephyr after only two months.

I think all along they've said this was going to be a short production run.

Better to ask wtf was on Ford's collective mind when they signed this off:

Dear Navigator-

Thanks for taking yourself out of the market with your new redesign!

Why has Ford gone back to the 1986 Tempo dash design? That looks so effin' stupid.

Better change this thread title to "Ford Design: RIP".

The old Lincoln Navigator didn't impress me either till I sat in one. It did much better in person than via pictures (at least the interior).
I presume the same is here although the new one appears to rely too much on 'styling' rather than 'function' (seems to be a recent trend across a bunch of brands, eh?).
Not sure about the grill.

People who buy Escalades and Navigators aren't really looking for subtle. I think the grille is a good move. Other than the square holes for the gauges, which are a step backward, the interior of the Navigator is nice enough.

I can't figure out the move to alphanumeric badges, though, especially since the Navigator is excluded. Personally, I like car names better than numbers, especially for American cars. The Cadillac system, e.g., is just dumb, because even a dedicated car nut like myself can't even keep them straight without thinking about it. Quick--RSX? SRX? CTS? DTS? DHS? XLR? WTF?

Lincoln Aviator is a great name; so is Lincoln Zephyr and Lincoln Continental. Lincoln MKX, MKZ and MKS are stupid names that suck.

OTOH, the AWD, 250 hp Zephyr (I won't call it an MKZ, goddamnit) looks like a nice enough alternative in the slushie entrylux category.

I remember hearing that the GT would only be made for <3 years and wondered why -- they could build a franchise off it.

What did they do to the Zephyr?

The Lincoln name change idea is really dumb...

Nobody will say "Mark Z" and will have trouble saying MkZ...

Plus the entire Mk line in Lincoln's history was fat pig luxo coupes... really makes me want to buy a lincoln.

oh -- and the actual changes to the Zephyr kind of make sense -- bigger engine and optional AWD... But why change the front just after releasing the car? Odd...

So that people can identify cars with the new engine?

Why did BMW put silver headlight buckets in the E46 330Ci one year after introducing the E46 328?
