A Holden for your alter ego?

I don't see how anyone who owns an E36 M3 and appreciates it for what it is could possibly be happy in a GTO.

Was it the 2004s that had the horrible tiny exhaust pipes?

Yep, not to mention the nasty plasticky interior. Plus it looks like any other Grand Am or GP.

You won't like how it drives.

Seeing as you all but trip over that lot once you step out the front door, it wouldn't cost you much time to check it out.

Shhh. Let him buy it. Then a late-model E46 330 will feel great to him in about a year.

It is pretty close by.

It's been on my list of cars I'm curious about. If it sucks THAT bad, it'll be easy to forget about.

What if it does not suck "THAT bad" but it is just mediocre? You'd still consider it?:?

...Just go and get it over with. Scratch that itch.

Well, if it didn't suck at all, it would be a great deal.

So there is some level of suckage where it stops being something to consider. But that line is hard to define in words. You know it when you experience it.

I drove one at the auto show in motion. I really wasn't impressed. Granted it was probably the most abused car at the show and had seen some hard wear, but it was what I consider typical GM quality. The doors weren't holding together that well, some knobs had broken off the dash . . . granted the 18 year olds went straight to abuse this car, but still. It didn't feel anything like the improved cadillac feel or even the improved corvette feel.

Drive one. If you like it, great. If you don't, you won't keep wondering if the power is enough to overcome all shortcomings.

It doesn't suck, exactly. But it will feel almost entirely unlike the M3. Let me put it this way--driving the GTO made the E46 M3 feel light, taut, razor sharp in its responses, with hugely powerful brakes, a deft shift feel, and eerily communicative steering.

Imagine what getting back in the E36 will feel like.

pre-owned CTS-V's are rather inexpensive (terrible residuals). just another thought.

to be honest, the fuel costs are not for the faint of heart, and i think TD would 'X' it off of his list once he computed how much fuel it would cost. but it's still better than what clyde gets......

clyde's been driving the 91 park avenue for three weeks. mileage isn't too bad...I don't think. Haven't had to put gas in it yet.

with a tow-tongue, no doubt.

i bet the park avenue gets better mileage towing 'something' than the rx8 gets normally.
