My lastest idea is the following:

1) Retire the 330 as an autox car. Between all the shocks, wheels, tires, sways, etc, I've got > $3000 worth of autox shit that could go.

2) Put about $2500 into the E30 to make it a regionally competitive STX car (GC suspension, sways, etc).

I feel bad tearing down the 330, but it's not nationally competitive any more, and I suck anyway. This would give give each car a dedicated purpose, which makes more sense than both being partially prepped for each. Tire cost would be greatly reduced and I hate changing r-comps.

The other option is to sell the E30, and use the E46 for everything (daily driver, autox, track). Keeping the E30 in it's current form makes the least sense. It serves no purpose.

Thanks for listening. Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

What difference does it make if you don't have "the" car when you readily acknowledge that you aren't "the" driver?

It doesn't. This would be a downgrade in terms of the cars competitiveness. I need to decide which I want to avoid the most:

a) having to buy expensive tires, lug them to events, change them at events, and store them in my tiny garage
b) deal with maintaining an older car

It just makes no sense to do b) if I'm autox'ing the 330i and doing a).

BTW, this entire thought process started when I was trying to decide what to do with our freaking Hoosier Wet's. :mad2:

So you're selling them both and getting an Atom for your daily driver? :D

Might as well throw that idea into the mix. :banghead:

Maintenance on an E30 isn't bad. It's a lot less time, expense, and effort than a lot of guys put into detailing their E46s. You already put in some long-term things that are a bit of a pain but are a long time between. So take advantage of that.

If I were you, I'de dedicate the E30 to Autox and keep the 330i stock as a daily driver. In other words, your original idea in this thread.

But that's just me.

What I would do, and this is me:

1) Keep 330 as autoX car.

2) Turn E30 into a RACE car. :)
