I really need to get a PC orbital.

The cheapest I've found is PC outlet for $107 for a reconditioned one.

http://portercable.cpoworkshop.com/polishers/7336spr.html?ref=ysm440&OVRAW=porter%20cable%207336sp&OVKEY=porter%20cable%207336sp&OVMTC=standard

The cheapest NEW PC orbital I have found is Amazon at $132.

Any other suggestions?

What about applicators, etc. Should I get them from Griots?

Thanks guys.

includes 5" couterweight, 6" counterweight, and the all-important hook-and-loop contour backing pad

$119

do a search at fest, I think you'll find that this is the most recommended deal

Yup, I saw that. Thanks. It also cleared up what the difference in part numbers meant. Just counterweight selection. Since this kit has both, you basically get them all. Neat. I'll order it. :D

What about this? Do I need it? Any advantage to having THIS polishing pad over PC's? :?

I got my kit a few years ago from CMA which appears to now be this: http://www.properautocare.com/74uldemawico.html

In looking through the website it looks like they have changed the pads a good bit....I guess it's time to buy some new ones.

I haven't used the Griot's pads but I do have a lot of their other products and I really like them.

you definitely want special pads versus the one that comes with the PC.

I'd order a bundle from CMA (bren's link above) or from detailer's paradise

I didn't have very good luck with Griot's polishes. I switched to Menzerna, but hven't used it yet.

I see. Ok, I'll order some pads. I guess I'll order machine polish 1,2,3.

OK, so... given this page, http://www.properautocare.com/hi612infopaa.html

I guess I'll get one yellow pad to remove scratches, a couple of white pads to apply the final polish, and then a couple of either red or black pads to apply wax.

But what is the difference between red and black? Why not go for the Red "Concours" pad? Why the black? :?

I have had really good luck with the Griot's stuff. I would not recommend the bonnets to remove the wax or polish. If you do use them, make sure you get the wax on when it's cool and get it off relatively quickly. I typically wax the whole car then remove all the wax. The Griot's best of show wax leaves an incredible shine, but it doesn't last as long as some other waxes do.

Any particular reason you think you will need polish one or two? You might, but I rarely use them. Oh, one other thing. The Griot's pads are by far the easiest I have used start to finish with Griot's products. The products are water soluble and the pads are spongelike, so the cleanup is simply rinsing them until the water runs clean.

I have a couple of scratches and will need to touch up a couple of spots. I don't know about MP1, but I do need at least MP2.

Polish is easy enough to remove by hand, wax can be a pain. But as long as applying the stuff is done easily by machine, I can deal with removing the products by hand. I already have Griots Speedshine, clay, BOS polish and wax, and the 3 yellow and 3 white microfiber towels (plus a whole bunch of costco mf towells).

The pads on the properautocare site seem pretty good. Are Griots' better?

What's the deal with Griots' white and red wax pads and holder? :? http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?L1=L1_1000&L2=L2_1004&SKU=10628

EDIT: I guess I really only need the red pads huh? I may be better off ordering everything from Griots. One shipment.

I think the wax pads and "holder" are for using them without a machine. You won't need those. They also sell mini pads with holders for tight spots. You might want those. I use them.

Wax is a pain to remove with a bonnet unless you are willing to use about 10000 bonnets per wax job and even then you will have to go after the last 20% of the wax by hand - and that's the hard to remove 20%. I think Dave liked them (rocketsomething or another with the supercharged 330i convert), but I don't remember anybody else liking them.

side question - what do you think of the Costco microfiger towels? I use them for some things, but I think Griot's are way better for removing wax.

Cool, thanks. That's what I figured. Red pads it is. I'll remove the stuff by hand.

Re: the Costco MF towels, I use them for miscellaneous stuff, but no outright buffing of major panels. Stuff like cleaning the B-Pillar and sills, wiping bird-crap with speedshine when it happens, etc. I dunno, I guess I just don't trust them that much.

They seem to leave a film for me that takes a lot of work to get off. I use them to keep my bike clean though. and for the speed shine if it's the closest cloth.

I have the Griot's polish (orange) and wax (red) pads, but I have been using Klasse AIO and the sealant with good results. I've applied the AIO to three cars and a boat. I'm pretty impressed with the durability, especially when the sealant is applied (1 car and boat).

I like DE plates better. More retro-looking, with the dark background.

No, that's mine before I got the new plates. My son's actually looks better though.
