"...trendy cars, like the Toyota Matrix, the Honda Element and three varieties of Toyota's Scions, were designed and marketed expressly for 20-somethings. But the people at the wheel often look more like Ozzie and Harriet than like the serially pierced offspring of Ozzy Osbourne."

Hmmmm, is my Audi considered a VW car??

nate

I'm really suprised how low Audi is and how high VW is, considering they are essentially THE SAME DAMN CAR.

All the Hummers I've ever seen have been driven by tiny, tiny women.

Scions piss me off--can't people tell they're being astroturfed? This faux hip turning into real hip thing is just not hip.

One interesting fact about that set of graphs--only 5 cars skew younger than intended.

And those that do are only off the mark by a couple years.

What I would like to know as far as the survey is concerned is if the "buyer" is the owner on the title, the one who wrote the check or the primary driver. The disparity for Corvettes and T-Birds is one thing that doesn't take much brain power to figure out what is probably going on. The relativley inexpensive cars are something else. Are parents buying the cars for their kids and skewing the results, or are older people buying them because they are less expensive?

I haven't been 16-24 in quite some time. When I was, half of the top 20 cars/brands listed didn't even exist.

These days the stodgy Audi is near the top of my desirability index, and I wouldn't know what the fkuc to do with a Scion (Aquarium? Terrarium? Fallout shelter? Espresso machine?)

I'd feel terribly old if it wasn't for the fact that I do still have something in common with the k1dz --> Porsche car

From the text of the article:

"CNW calculates the anticipated age of drivers based on manufacturers' demographic projections, analysis of prices and market segments and other information. Data on drivers is considered more relevant than that on purchasers, because parents often buy children the cars they demand, skewing the demographic profiles."

I'll copy and paste the whole article if you'd like. Just let me know.

I wonder if I fit the target demographic for a CTS-V.

I know someone in his 50s that just bought one. And I know someone in his 30s that just bought a Chrysler 300C SRT-8 after cross shopping it with the CTS-V

90% of the hundreds (thousands?) of Hummers I've seen have been driven by men.

Same here. And almost every one of them has "the look" that you know they are one of the biggest, pompous a$$-holes you'll ever meet.

I heard a survey report on the radio that claimed that some vast majority of Hummer owners are self-reported Republican men.

I'm assuming both parts were self-reported...

Man, some of those were amusingly off. Did they pick mostly vehicles where the target age was underestimated to put in the graphic, or is that a general trend?

If I need a car again, it'll be to carry more than myself and one other person, or to haul crap on a regular basis. At this moment, I'd think that would be E30 or Mazda 3 for the former and Baja for the latter. Who knows what it will be if and when that time comes around.

I finally had to move and pass an old ass driver in a Z06 on the way to work this morning. The interchange is one place around here that one might have a bit of fun in a performance car. I can take it at 70+ without even pushing he M3. This guy was doing 25 max.

Gotta wonder...

Yep, no question. I mean, it's a Cadillac, for pete's sake. Nothing but 80 year old drivers!
