View Full Version : I've come to the conclusion that 255/40 is just too much...

OK, Duh, but I had to try. :p

The wheels simply can't manage to get control of the tread in any meaningful way. The car requires significantly more steering input for the same result with the R-tires on. Moreover, it accelerates in a rather languid fashion. (I put my Falkens back on yeserday in the evening and man, the car was peppier!)

So now I'm back to 235/40 Ecsta V700s vs. 225/45 VictoRacer V700s. (I'll run the 255s through the winter season and work on curing myself of my street tire habits... R-tires KILL you if you're not smooth, and I do need to work on that.)

I'm beginning to think I've spent far too much time thinking about tires.

I thought the idea of putting the 255s on was to test fittment? :dunno: Now you're deciding against them for next year because the spent ones that you picked up don't have any grip left? :? I don't know, Nick...seems like there's a disconnect going on. Without question, I would be using those tires next year if I was going to run the wagon again.

:dunno:

My issue with them is what happens with the sidewalls. The initial (way too high) pressures that I ran masked the issue, but with the lower pressures that are more appropriate for the tires, the sidewalls are NOT controlled in a manner that I'm happy with. (Maybe I'm just enjoying the razor sharp turn in of 205s on 8" wheels a little too much.)
