There is a new improved rear shelf available from BMW and the service bulletin has been updated.

Model
E46 (3 Series) Coupe, with Harman-Kardon HiFi loudspeaker system (option 674). Vehicles from start of production up to April 2003.
Situation
Rear parcel shelf/subwoofer rattles when audio track has heavy bass. The cause of these rattling noises is vibration between rear parcel shelf and shelf vent.
Procedure
Install a new rear parcel shelf (improved with an additional holder in the middle).
