it's the reason why halo cars are built. i thought this was a pretty old McKinsey Consulting/BCG kind of idea.

those cars attract us. not all of us can afford those cars or buy them to use realistically, but we still sit in them and talk about them or drive them home. either way, it gets us into the showrooms and helps us learn about the other products.

and when people start talking about cars, we either engage them in conversation or we are actively sought after people. the upside is that we, unlike a lot of other people, actually know what we're talking about.
