That picture could be described as automotive darwinism ... people too stupid to keep a car running so their's dies and they're no longer on the road.

Well, at least it won't rust.

We have some engineers come over from Japan for 5 year stints every so often. My boss told be about an engineer he worked with here in Peoria that bought a Ford Tempo when he first arrived. After 5 years he had a little over 50,000 miles on it and asked my boss to help him sell it before he left.

My boss asked him when the last time he had the oil change was. The engineer looked at him and said, "no change, no change, just add" My boss almost fell out of his chair. He quickly took the car over to Jiffy lube and asked them to change the oil. When he came back to pick up the car they charged him double because, "the oil filter was welded to the engine block"

I feel bad for whoever bought that car.

I know of someone who had a 528e that went about 60,000 miles without an oil change. The mechanic had to use a hammer to get the filter off.

Ran fine, though...

Around here 50% of the population considers a Tempo the pinnacle of automotive excellence..

I've actually seen a LOT worse than that when I was a mechanic. Especially with non-detergent oils

You were a mechanic? At a time when detergent-laced oils weren't widespread?

Must have been a while ago... :P
