Looks like they clipped a curb with the rear wheel while skidding, and flipped her over.

I wonder what the insurance rates on that vehicle are going to be like?

It WAS a nice, blue E60 M5...

...except for the stickers.

I don't think they flipped it. The top is too nice and shiny; even the sunroof is in place. I think they clipped a curb, and the front became intimitely acquainted with an immoveable object.

He was someone who used to frequent the 'fest and toadfly (before we all decamped from there). He lived in this area; TD, blee and I met him several times (not sure whether clyde and nick did). Good guy, but made a bit of an error in judgment in a parking lot.

Not sure where he's gotten to--none of us have seen or heard from him in quite some time. He bought an autocross car and was getting serious about autocrossing, but then he stopped showing up to events--maybe he moved?

I actually rode in that autox car once, but he took it *very* slow.

He showed up at the first Jetfest (post accident w/ his then new 330i).

Many of them. :P

I shouldn't have sold the Pontiac, but then I wouldn't have gotten my sweet '99 M3.

I shouldn't have sold that M3 after so little time, but then I wouldn't have gotten the '88 and gone all techno-porno with the engine. Nor would I have bought the Jeep and realized how nice they can be.

I shouldn't have sold the '88, but then my wife would've killed me and I couldn't have gone to school.

The Jeep? Eh...I liked it a lot, but I can always buy another.

The Focus? Oh, wait, I still have that one. I think.

I had a nice weekend with the ZHP. We took it on (another) tour of the NY/NJ region, and I was reminded that it really is an exceptional trip/distance car. It's effortless to drive, it gets good gas mileage (28+ on the highway, even cruising at 85 mph), it's quiet, it holds three people plus luggage (and a TV) with no complaints, and thanks to its gearing it really feels at home at 85 (or, uh, higher). This trip would have been impossible with the M3C, which is one of the reasons I got rid of it (in fact, I started looking after a particularly grueling ordeal driving to Uniontown, PA).

Of course, a 540i would have been even better on that trip.

What it comes down to is this: I wouldn't hesitate to get rid of an E36 M3 that I was using as my primary car; even an M3/4, which is more utilitarian than my M3C was, is older, louder and rougher than I would want to put up with every day. As such, given that I didn't own the M3C outright, and couldn't have afforded to keep it AND get something else to use as a primary car, it was the right decision to ditch it. OTOH, if I could have an M3C or M3/4 as a second or third car, I might be alright with that. Of course, when we start talking about second cars, the question of whether the E36 M3 is the *best* choice becomes important--would I pick an E36 M3 as a second car over an RX-8? Or a Mustang? Or even an R32? Eh. Maybe. Probably not, especially if I had some other BMW as my primary car.

In mostly-stock trim, I don't think the E36 M3 makes a good second car. If there was already an E46 in my garage, then I'd easily give the nod to a Mustang before the M3.

I really think the E36 M3 fits one of two purposes very well: As a daily driver, or as a dedicated track/competition car. It's not great at doing both at the same time, IMO. I'd want mine back for primary car duty.

I would part with my M3 for a very reasonable price if I knew it was going to a good home.

It's in great shape (damn near everything has been replaced) and is still cosmetically near perfect. Of course it's taken a few hits, but all of the repairs look perfect and it exhibits no adverse traits (it tracks perfectly, doesn't exhibit odd tire wear, or show any other signs of permanent damage).

I do think I am ready to move on. I have spent some time driving my dad's E39 (w/SP) this week and that car's combination of comfort and road feel is feeling more appealing to me every day. His car is a slushie and I'm still tempted to take it over my M3 some days. I figure an E39 540i 6-spd would probably really hit the spot.

They're number than E46s... especially the 540s with the recirc-ball steering.

Sounds like you're finally ready for your E46 330. But maybe now it will be an E90. :eeps:

Yup. I last figured out that "good home" price something like 6 months ago (when JST not very seriously considered the idea).

You're not particularly local (almost as far from being local as possible actually), but if you're serious, PM me and I'll figure out how much I'd part with it for.

It's a '98 M3/4 5-spd with ~ 71K miles.

Well, considering I couldn't drive JST's ZHP smoothly because of the clutch/throttle behavior (and I can usually hop into a "foreign" manual tranny car and drive it perfectly smoothly), I pretty much put the idea of revisiting an E46 out of my head.

I've actually simply ruled out having any M54 engined BMW. So the E39 530s are out as well.

You get used to it. I'm as smooth with this car now as I ever am with any car--the clutch stop helped a bit. It still doesn't behave the way I'd like it to on fast shifts, though--that might be the CDV.

I have a similar device to the CDV in my S2000. It noticeably weakens clutch grab during spirited driving, the same way that the 330's does. But in the Honda, clutch takeup is still many times more predictable. And far easier to drive smoothly than the 330 ever was.

The best clutch I've ever driven was in the MCS. Immediate takeup, no noticeable slippage. Funny, because with the complete lack of low-end torque, some slippage would have been beneficial in 1st and 2nd gears.

Ya know, you can remove the clutch stop on the AP2 easily enough... :P

There are a bunch of guides on S2KI alone. If I got one, that would be the first mod.

Have you driven an e39 530? I've now had mine for 3 months and the clutch interaction was much better from day one than my e46 325. On the 325, I had trouble in 1st and 2nd about 20% of the time. Only rarely have I had trouble on the e39.

I still think that may be your best option...
