View Full Version : What do you pay for insurance on your BMW?

I saw that a guy at the 'fest pays $5000 a year for his M3 cabrio. That is so ridiculous I don't know if I should laugh at him or feel bad for him. But I guess it must be worth it to him.

So what do you pay and for what model BMW? Is it "worth" it to you, or do you pay it under protest?

Me - 2003 330i - About $1300 a year. Pretty happy considering it is a new, expensive car and it is very sporty.

Multi-vehicle discount and only the bare minimum insurance + uninsured driver coverage for the 325. $200 and change every 6 months.

A guy in a local club pays $5000 per year for his Miata. :paranoid:

BMW 330Ci: about $700 / 6 month
MINI Cooper S: about $500 / 6 month
Umbrella up to $1M, about $130 / year (cars were 250/500/100, the minimum for umbrella)

'99 m3 - $985/year

That's about exactly half what I was paying before I switched companies. The old price went up from the '01 330i by about $500/year (old company prices).

Yeah, it's worth it. The Volvo is $863/year. Even with a five speed, it's still fwd. Which one would you rather drive?

About $4,000 for all three cars.

I think it's about $800/year for my bimmer...same with our beemer. And then add about $600 for the Ducati and another $540 for the F-150.... *gulp* ...it adds up. :(

Or haven't been caught? :dunno:

Having trouble remembering at the moment, but I think the wagon is running about $850/year right now.

Unfortunately I now have 3 separate 20+ over the limit tickets this year.

Oddly enough, I have yet to get a speeding ticket in the BMW. I've gotten about 6 or so in the Miata in the time I've had it (Jan. 2001). :paranoid: I think the BMW will pay itself off shortly. :D

Got my first ticket ever for a moving violation a few weeks ago-- clocked at 40 in a 25, ticket written up as 5 over (30mph). $75. Doh!

As for parking violations, I get those all the time. The City of Providence has the best (quickest) parking police out there, and they seem to be attracted to my car.

Unfortunately I now have 3 separate 20+ over the limit tickets this year.

Does that mean three 20+ convictions? Convictions that are showing on your record? Were they showing before your last renewal?

If you answered "yes" to all of the above, what's the secret?

Inquiring minds and all.

Huh. Here in MA, if you have 3 speeding tickets in a year, your license is revoked for 30 days.

I pay roughly $1300/yr.

Rates vary significantly based on what town you live in though. At least here in MA.

The biggie was reduced to "improper driving".

Then I had an 81 in a 55 and a 76 in a 45.

It's been a bad year.

I recently had to engage in a farce the MVA calls a "Point System Conference".

And I just added the Saab to our policy.

I'm at a bit over $1400/yr with a clean driving record... perhaps it is time to shop around a bit. :(

Do most of you run your deductibles pretty high? I'm currently at:
- $100 comprehensive
- $500 collision
- $250K/500K liability (which I needed to get a PL umbrella)

I have $300/$1000 for deductables.

The savings was significant enough to make it worth it.

:awe: Must be a byproduct of where you live :(

I pay $674 per year for my 330i (yes that is correct no surcharge for the ZHP portion  so it must just be a regular 330 )

To be honest, that was the appeal to me. If they had made it a 330is, we'd probably be paying higher premiums. I like that it is just a 330i.

I should mention that this is zero tickets, zero accidents, and a 35% good credit discount. I've already started shopping around.

It's 1300/year. Well, it is not ridiculous, but it is a 10-15% discount on top of an already VERY competitive rate. After all, I don't work for an insurance company.

To go to the other extreme...

$110/year on my 2002 via Hagerty (Collector Car Coverage...)
Then again, it's not a car I'm supposed to drive to work and so on...
And this time of year, it doesn't get driven at all... :(

FYI-
My other cars...
1987 Mercedes 420SEL 800/yr
2001 GMC Yukon 900/yr
as I recall.... and that's with the homeowners 'discount' along for the ride.
