Must have been the rain :P

Did you think the wipers would help?

Looks like a ton of fun, actually.

Looked way cooler on my computer, flipping through them like an animation... but ah, well.

Of course it was the rain. You expect me to do 3 runs in the dry, then be able to adapt my driving for the rain? That would take actual driving skills. Instead, I just drove the same way and spun two out of my next 3 runs.

Didn't help that I posted in the middle of your run.

And I can't see a way to delete the post now ... sorry.

Still time for that beer though. :)

And awesome job of continuing to look ahead, even when ahead was behind. Evo school pays off for you!

Check out how low the is spoiler gets to the ground. Holy crap, these H&R/bilsteins are soft. I must be on or near the bump stops. They don't feel that soft on the street.

Sweet!

There are three more on the end. Is it hard to append them on the end? They're attached.

Do you think I have nothing better to do than stick pics together of some dude from an Internet board spinning?
OK then, just reload the page...

Lifted off the throttle?

I spun the 328 at auto-x once, you really need to be ham fisted to spin an E46. Lift off during a transition + gravel.

Not sure how true that statement is.

Alex

I should qualify that to be a non-M E46.

Looks like you had the right line, getting to the back side of the cones like that. I’m guessing you hit that cone, it distracted you which caused you to lift off the throttle which caused the spin. Am I close?

In Toledo… I like my tires warm, just not that warm….k? ;)

Agreed. Of course, it's easy to do that in a stock suspension M3, too.

Actually, it's REALLY easy to do that in a stock suspension M3 with R-tires. It only took a VERY tiny weight transfer at the wrong moment (I was understeering a bit and feathered the throttle), and then I spun it at 90 MPH. It doesn't do that on coilovers.

I was actually just going a bit too fast. The entry to the slalom was slow, so you could accelerate slightly through it and I got carried away. That's why I hit cones.

Then, at the end of the slalom you needed to slow down a bit because it got sharper. Well, I didn't, so the back end started to come around to the left (not caught on film). I overcorrected, like I do every FREAKING time the tail comes out, and ended up spinning to the right.

I hear flat spots on the tires make you go faster. :eeps:

Matt, your issue is that you're not feeling that point when the slide stops. Once you find that, you'll be able to recover much mroe easily. You're at the crank the wheel over and hope stage, which means that it's mostly blind luck that gets the wheel straightened out again.

So, uh, keep spinning out. Eventually, you'll get it.

It's not that I don't feel it, but I realize it and react too late. It's the typical rookie mistake of overcompensating for oversteer, causing sudden oversteer in the other direction.

I need to get more comfortable to have my ass hanging out, correct less severly, and for a shorter time.

QUICK stabs of the wheel to correct works wonders.

I certainly buy the theory. I just need to put it into practice because my natural instincts are not correct.

Honestly, Nick's advice is good. I should occasionally over-drive intentionally and practice catching it. When the result is a controlled drift, rather than a spin, then I'm good to go.
