I'm all fired up about cars. I love them.

Cars are cool.

Pretty much agreed.

It's ironic that as I keep learning how to actually drive cars (ie, autox and track events) I continue to feel less and less interest in buying a) fancy sports cars, and b) high-horsepower cars.

I don't, either.

Not much to discuss, there.

Just don't mention bikes or birds. :eeps:

Yup.

I still think that I am a pretty good driver, but I haven't done a track event in well over a year. Back then I was in the red ("A") group. I don't know how much my skills have deteriorated...some, I am sure. But, I don't have that much of an interest in doing another event. I want to go, but is isn't a strong urge at all...

Let me post a picture of this flower. I'm with the church of religious consciousness...

I agree with your edit. The vast majority of cars aren't taken anywhere near their limits, and the joy of driving a slow car quickly is orders of magnitude above that of driving a fast car slowly.

I'm feeling pretty psyched about cars these days. There are a bunch of cars that I would like to own.

On a positively ridiculous note, a Pettit racing built three-rotor RX-7 R2 just got put up for sale. He's asking $40k for it (it's hard to imagine a ten year old Mazda at $40k being a bargain, but this one is), but it makes between 650 and 800 horsepower depending on the tune.

On a more reasonable note, I'm still waffling on whether I want an RX-8. The gas mileage really kills me, and the M3 has a bigger trunk and has served me very well for three years.

S2000s have started to look more interesting as they're dropping in price. I still hate the engines, though.

The Solstice / Sky are coming out soon and I'll definitely have to take a look. From what I've seen they look very nice. Would definitely have to wait for the SS version, though. 170hp / 2800lb is not going to cut it.

Used Boxter S examples are ALMOST in the range that I could afford one comfortably. I'd love to own one.

Plus, I have the opportunity to autocross other peoples' cars all the time, which is just a blast. Every run in the RX-8 leaves me with a BFG on my face, which is really what it's all about. I'm driving an E46 M3 with suspension at the autocross this weekend, which will be big big fun if it doesn't rain. And I still want to take my car out for a run in STU at an event this year.

Besides buying cars and drivingcars I love working on cars. Clyde's car needs a light exhaust. The M3 needs more front camber and more rear toe-in, and will probably need a VANOS unit this summer.

It's a good time to be a car freak. :D

I want an RX-8.

I think you should buy one. In fact, I can think of a specific example that would suit you very well.

You had to go and pick my least favorite color, didn't you?

I'm not all that excited about cars anymore either. They're all too big and too expensive. I mean I like to see what's new and upcoming but the list that excites me gets smaller and smaller by the year.

Dude, you are pimping out your car pretty hard.

This thing had better be for sale in the fall. Otherwise you're just a tease.

Flame on, but I wish we could be given the choice of sacrificing in the name of lightness. Problem is there's too small of a market for that kind of car and the car I have in mind probably wouldn't pass crash tests.

I really don't care about crash safety. I don't want airbags. None of 'em. I don't want power seats. Unfortunately, the gov't has to protect us from ourselves...

Mazda, bring me a two-seat 2600lb fixed roof RX-7 with a 300hp, 200lb-ft supercharged Renesis and offer it stripped down for a $30k MSRP and I'll buy it. Promise.

i dunno what's wrong with our college boy, but i still very much am into cars.

better to enjoy them while we have them before the next dip in sports car production and a return to frumpy fuel-efficient cars for awhile.

there are about 10 that i would love to buy tomorrow if i could only justify it in a rational way.

993 RS America is your ticket.

Tell me more. Seriously. How much are they going for these days?

As for your earlier post, I really don't get the ZCP M3. I mean, I don't understand the E46 M3 to begin with, but the ZCP package really makes no sense to me.

'cept maybe the steering, from what I've read.

Nah the steering is supposedly even a joke. (this from a guy who currently owns both a ZCP and non-ZCP)

Oh, and RSAs generally go for $35-$40k :eeps:

bren

Wow, 35 to 40? On rennlist they were complaining how it was still high 40's, if you can find one. And then, because it was still mostly owned by poseurs, you still need to d oa valve job...
Well, I don't know what kind of shape they are in but I've seen quite a few in that range. I can say that finding a stock example seems damn tough. I suppose an enthusiast owned car would go for more (that's how it goes in the CCA anyway) but that's not to say they are actually worth more.

the RS america is a wonderful machine.

there is a local one owned by a local tuner. he keeps it in absolute pristine shape.

it's funny because he says the 3.6 to 3.8 litre upgrade is one of the most popular thing that 993 owners in the area do. and, obviously, special hand picked 3.8 litre motors are standard in the RS.

(sigh).
