that was MY 2003 and had 600 miles on it, would you consider this kind of stuff par for the course?

Mototek is assuring me that it is, and I very much disagree. But I know you guys will be honest...

RS50(75). It's an Austin bike. It died on its shakedown run.

Looks pretty rough for only 600 miles.

Does the phrase, "ridden hard and put away wet" mean anything to ya?

Run, don't walk - very very far away from that .. thing. I'm hoping you didn't buy it...

No, I'm a dumb fuck and did - before I saw all of that. Advice would be good - other than the advice of never, ever buying a bike without someone else looking at it first, no matter who is selling it.

Looks like it was stored on Pier 47 for a year. :speechle:

That is not normal wear and tear.

if you have no legal recourse, chalk it up to experience, get it running and ride the shit out of it.

Cripes. That's not even close to "good shape." I would be absolutely furious.

If the vendor won't take it back, go public with the story, way public. It wouldn't take more than a few threads across a few forums to tarnish this reputable dealer's name a bit. You probably won't get anything out of it, but maybe other people won't make the same mistake in the end.

I'd have to agree, given that you essentially have no legal recourse. But I'm not a lawyer. Still, finding every motorcycle forum in the world and getting the word out is a good start.

Sorry about your misfortune...

Assuming you had the opportunity to inspect the bike before you bought and that the seller didn't try to actively hide anything, I suspect you are stuck from a legal perspective. Caveat emptor and all that. In the dealer's mind, they sold a used bike for a used price and you bought it "as is."

Sorry to hear about it. But after following your exploits for a few years, I bet you make it as good as new very quickly.
