The Modis is a beautiful thing.

I just got back from some tinkering with this OBD-II diagnostic tool. Some observations?

• Fault codes. But you expected that, right? I especially liked pulling up individual misfire readings on all cylinders, very cool.
• Data readout. Not only simple live data readout, but live waveform reads of everything and everything. From O2 and TPS to ECT and EVAP. 2 to 8 simultaneous live waveforms. Rev the engine up and watch the graphs!
• Using the Modis to intervene. This was way cool. You could use it to do it all (it seemed) without ever touching the dashboard. Want to energize the AC compressor? Tap in a few commands. My favorite was using the Modis at idle to open the EGR valve in 10% increments and watching the RPMs drop (and the engine idle progressively worse).

This is one cool piece of work. Of course, I was already aware of such tools and their basic operations. But seeing it in person - and more importantly using it myself, I'd have to say it's probably not a rip-off, even at Snap-On pricing rates.

I have to go now. :eeps:

EDIT: Apparently, the SOLUS pwns the MODIS, doing everything except some Vantage functions:

(Also, the Modis can do a cylinder power balance test by shutting off individual injectors - ain't that neat)

Eh, $5,000 for a Modis starter set. $8,000 for the whole deal. I don't want to find out how much (at full list) they're asking for a Solus.
