From a guy in Rennlist...

"Exact cost (msrp) is $45249 for a new motor and $26531 for a Porsche reman."

That is one crazy-expensive motor.

Here's the thread (dunno if it can be viweed by anyone):

This is why PAG is making $$ hand over fist on the regular M96/M97 engines that cost a fraction of the M64.

This is also why there still exists a sad possibility that the 997 GT's and Turbo's will use the wet sump M97 so that PAG can maximize profit while delivering sub standard products that resembles nothing of its race cars.

Bullshit. Porsche is taking advantage of the fact that almost no one races a cup car out of pocket.

BTW stuka, what's this I see about GT3 owners getting the dreaded RMS (over at rennlist)?

According to you, the "racing block" was immune to these type of problems.

Huh? It's the same engine in the GT3/GT2/Turbo.

I am suer economy of scale has something to do with it. BUt also remember that prior to C6 Z06, GT3 was the cheapest production car with a dry sump system.

Same with the days of 993.

Then find out what the actual price is of one of those engines. I guarantee you that even if it were identical (which we both know it isn't), the fact that one engine is for the Cup car automatically makes it one hell of a lot more expensive.

you guys do realize that the M64 engine in the 993 costs $30,000, right?

just for reference, the GT3 motor isn't that much more expensive especially given that it is a racing motor running a super high compression with an 8000rpm redline.

(996 M96 motors are only about $12,000 apiece, in comparison).
