View Full Version : I'm not a huge waffler...
because I know I want a new car. I've been searching online for the last few hours for a '05 330i ZHP. I found a few and inquired about one or two. Other autos I'd consider. '05 Acura TL and the new '06 Lexus IS250. I rather have a RWD car, but with the city stop and go driving, the absurd traffic and road construction a FWD car probably would not affect me too much.

What, that he didn't hold out for an E90?

Atys got it. In my NY Auto Show write up, I mentioned that the purple RX-8 gave me a twinge of regret.
Key word--twinge.
I am actually pretty happy with the ZHP so far. It acquitted itself very well this weekend on a 600 mile trip. It's geared SO TALL (as are all 330s) that cruising at 85-95 mph is effortless. It doesn't have the explosive acceleration of the M3, but it can hold its own in most traffic. The interior is much more comfortable than the M3 for 3 people, and the trunk space is significantly greater (esp. since I don't have to strap in a spare).
I don't regret not waiting for the E90.
The purple RX-8 was very cool, but since my biggest complaint with the ZHP is lack of torque, I think I wouldn't have been happier with one of those. And a car like that would have had to stay at home on a trip like the one I just made.
I think I've talked myself out of another E46. While I love the exterior design of the E46 I am no longer a fan of the interior, it looks dated. Another factor is that I do not want to spend that kind of money again on an automobile, especially a BMW to just to end up losing half of it down the road.
I'm shopping around for the best deal on a 2005 Acura TL. Sure it is FWD, but honestly I don't care. I like what the car offers for the money and last summer I could have purchased a new 2004 TL for $30,500. IMO, it is a lot of car for the money.

Ditto.

Hmm.
Honestly, I can't understand buying the TL over the G35, if you are going to go that route. And people are fairly regularly selling low-mileage, 2K3 ZHPs for 30K.
I don't like the G35, I never have.
Another factor for an Acura purchase, I was an Acura owner way before I was ever a BMW owner. I also used to be a service writer at our local dealership. I know that I will be well taken care of. ;)

I haven't driven one, so I have no good grounds for judgment, but I have never driven a powerful FWD car that didn't have irritating torque steer.
Still, it's a complete package, and you do get a lot of car for the money. I just wish it didn't pull instead of push.

I agree...
The torque steer is pretty bad in the 6 spd, but in the 5 spd. auto it is a little more controlled.
1st dealer - $31,970. Basically a dealer profit of $1200. Shooting for $1000 over invoice.
