View Full Version : Are these brake pads garbage?

The P.O. of my E30 included a bunch of the original parts from when he had the car preped for his track school. Among other things, he included the brake pads pictured below.

1) I'm assuming they're garbage? They are pretty rusty, and the surface isn't great.

2) They have between 8 and 10 mm remaining, so it's a bit odd why they needed replacing. Because the car sat and they got rusty? It looks like he replaced them with OEM brakes, so it's not because he moved to a track pad. (the boxes are pictured, and I'm assuming they're the boxes of the new brakes, not the old ones).

The boxes, which I assume are the brakes on my car now.

There's no file extension *.JPG, or *.GIF or whatever. That, and the file names are wrong.

I don't think that rust is a big deal. You could clean the backing plates up with a wire brush. That being said, I'd spend the $100 and buy new pads. Maybe they are track pads?

Emery cloth and some brake cleaning solution will take care of that. Still plenty of usable material.

Thanks guys. I wonder why the PO took them off then.

Maybe I'll email him and ask.
