here's the reason why there was never a 330iT brought to the US smack in my face.

someone needs to let that guy know that the pricing has been released

X3 2.5 $30,995 base MSRP

X3 3.0 $36,995 base MSRP

That *almost* makes me want one for a daily driver.

Ehhhh...

Well, I suppose it bodes well for the E90's handling.

Well, most people won't understand this comparison in a few months when there is no more "touring" in the US. Mark my words-- the horrible residuals on the 325iT/xiT and the projected sales of the X3 all but guarantee that the days of the 3er touring are limited in the US.

Wierd looking? Yes. Not as good looking as others? Yes. Ugly? Maybe not.

It doesn't look as bad in person. (how many times have you heard that recently about BMW designs. )

That red 3.0 with the big wheels that is in all the pictures is hot. I'd surely take one. That's all I have to say.

it's just a tall station wagon.

and as far as they go, i'd rather have a BMW one than a vw, audi or MB one. it's zippy. might have to wait until the v'tronic inline sixes come, though.

great dog vehicle.

"Zippy?" 7.8 seconds to 6 with the 3.0L? That's pretty bad. For zippy, go with the Forrester 2.5XT.

It's not a bad overall design, but.... then they have to go and fcuk up the headlights and tailights? For what? Does BMW own stock in the "barf" smiley? :vomit:

well, you know, the turbo forester is my vehicle of choice. but other than the engine, the shifting mechanism is horrible and it needs some serious suspension work.

i mean, i could live with that because i could get it for about $23 and change from my guy.

but, as you know, there are always "other" people who have input on the dog mobile decision. since it wouldn't be MY primary vehicle, i have a lot less leverage in the decision.

Hm...Of all the new BMW designs coming out, this is one that I haven't instantly warmed up to. It's not that I don't like it.

I also didn't instantly warm up to the X5. Perhaps once I start seeing it on the road I may like it more.

Okay, I'll be one of the few to admit that I like it. Not in a "knock your socks off" sort of way, but it's a pretty decent design IMHO. I do think it would be unacceptably slow with the 2.5 engine, though. And try as I might, I can't find the radio display in the pictures I've seen.
But I confess, I still like the 3 series touring better.

I have a feeling my mother (who currently drives an X5) will buy an X3 next time.

oh, it ain't a looker by any means. just derivative of the E46 and the X5 (E53?).

i'm past the SUV aura of it: let's take it for what it is, a tall station wagon. and if BMW isn't going to offer a 330iT here, then that is the next best thing for that sort of vehicle. that doesn't mean, however, that things like turbo foresters, turbo legacy wagons or E500 4matic wagons are out of the picture. it's just nice to finally have another offering from BMW.

I agree completely. This is what we are going to have to settle for since BMWNA will probably stop bringing the tourings over here. I'm not particularly interested in buying an X3, or any SUV for that matter. I need a large lockable compartment to store stuff in, and the trunk of a car does quite nicely. I've yet to find any SUV that has a locking compartment, like under the floor for example. And since I drive about 45k miles per year, gas mileage is fairly important too.

As a side note, all those people who keep asking about details of the future 3 series can just trot down their local BMW dealer and check out the X3. We've seen the future (well, at least the headlights and interior), and it is the X3.

How is the locking tailgate different from a locking trunk?

The main difference is that with a trunk, everything can be securely locked inside. With SUVs, and wagons for that matter, anything that you have stored in cargo area is fully accessible to anyone willing to break a window. And windows will shatter very easily.

I keep all my flight gear in my trunk so that it's always with me when I go to the airport to fly my plane. There are thousands of dollars worth of headsets, GPS receivers, and other equipment in there. I want that stuff securely locked up at all times, which is why I always keep the trunk release disabled, just in case I forget to lock the doors remotely. No one can just come along and break a window to get all my equipment.

Does that answer the question?
