I'd like to change the clutch in the 323 as a preventative measure. You up for another tech session in your garage?

I think it would be easier to do there than in my garage. :eep:

Clutch change on jackstands = doable but frustrating. Need low-saddle transmission jack, like the kind avail. at Harbor Freight that uses a .5" ratchet. A couple of regular floor jacks would be useful to hold things in place as well.

Clutch change on lift = less backbreaking. Need some kind of high transmission jack -- the kind that has a base with a long shaft that leads up to the mounting part. Also need more of those things to hold up the driveshaft and probably lend a little support to the engine.

Of course, the easiest way to change a clutch is to do it with the engine out of the car. :P

I've been thinking about that, too, as a winter project. ;)

That's fine. I wouldn't want to do it for a little while anyway.

But at least it's nice and warm.

I am still here, at least for today.

But sure, when I am in town. Right now I wil be gone a couple of weeks, then that next weekend I have to do a serious look and possible repair to the LTW tranny. I think I cracked the housing last tranny oil change.

I wonder if you we can remove, fix and replace two trannies in a weekend? :)

Then I leave again, then I will be home for a while.

I dunno, but I'd be more than happy to help you out with it. (As I said way back when.)

The one complication is that I'm not free until the afternoon most Saturdays.

Let me know when you're doing it, though. Whether or not we can do it at your place, it'll be nice to work through the process once.

The plan is to put the car up next Fri, and see what is up. Then, if needed, drop the tranny and weld it on Sat.

Terry, as a reminder I'm running errands Friday morning, and can drop by early afternoon to also give you a hand (and Saturday is open for me).

Well, the final hurricane last year either felled or seriously uprooted every large oak tree we had in our yard. So I actually welcome this year's hurricanes to finish the job.

[I can't afford to pay a tree service to remove the 4 trees that are still standing....it's freakin' expensive]

I really think you should employ all three of the techniques listed above at the same time.
