Not for me.

Have a friend who is interested in finding a 2001 or 2002 330i, 5 speed, SG or SB with grey interior, sunroof, SP, and HK, with 35K or fewer miles. Let me know if you know of anyone with a car like that for sale.

As you know, I would recommend that they skip the 01 because of the steering.

35K or fewer miles might make it a lot tougher to find.

is that so they can buy an extended warranty for it?

wow, there's one at my local dealer

don't know if it has moonroof or not though..it's not listed, but it does have PP

FWIW, I think the dealer still has our old '01. It is TSilv on black, sport, manual, xenon, HK, moon, heated seats, bla, bla, bla. It's not exactly what the guy is looking for but it was low-miles when we traded it (sub-30k I believe) and has the retrofitted steering rack.

edit: Not sure if it is still wearing RD sways but it was when I parted with it.

MR was part of the premium package, IIRC. I think HK was made std. at some point on 330s, but I can't remember when.

Bizarrely, the guy looking for the car is also in Austin. I forwarded him the link. Thanks.

Moon roof was part of the pp in 2001. HK was not standard or part of an ption package in 2001. I don' t know when it became standard.

I *think* that HK became standard on late 2001 build 330s.

i was surprised--it seems that there are plenty of 01 and 02 CPO cars under 36,000 miles

the car also has in-dash CD as an option (became standard for 02s), so I'd be a little surprised if it didn't have HK too.

It was definitely standard by '02

Rob

In that case, I will change my statement - the November 2000 build 2001 330i's did not have HK as standard. :)

Exactly.

JST- You remember driving mine. Would you wish that upon an enemy, let alone a friend? Just say no to '01 E46s.

Damn... where were you when I bought my '01 e46?

JST -- would your friend be willing to consider an '01 325Ci? 39k miles, steele blue, leather, pp, manual, cd, xenons... I may be inclined to sell...

I didn't know so many people had them.

If I had bought a 2002 instead of a 2001, I might still have it. Probably not, but maybe.

My 330Ci was produced 06/28/00 (first month of 330 production). Took delivery 07/28/00

If he's looking for a manual transmisson, don't forget the aux cooling fan recall ordeal on the '01s. My '01 325i went through 4 of them. It overheated 3 times leaving me or my wife stranded on the side of the road. Just another of the many reasons we no longer have an '01.

But they STILL haven't changed the clutch. ALL E46s ('01+) have that clutch. And the DBW throttle lag.

What a shame. FWIW, I thought the chassis felt very solid. It's too bad BMW can't get out of its own way with regard to electronic gizmos.

FC
02-10-2005, 02:40 PM
My clutch ('03), is the only clutch I know. I almost have it mastered. But of course, whenever I drive another MT car, it feels very awkward. Teh throttle lag is VERY small in my car.

I also have never stalled in 26K miles. Maybe 10 times so far (since new) the rpm's dipped enough to startle me at idle, but it has never stalled.

But they STILL haven't changed the clutch. ALL E46s ('01+) have that clutch. And the DBW throttle lag.

There's no perceptible throttle lag in my car, and the clutch is very consistent.

I'll ask again, have you ever driven a post '01 330 with no CDV?

TD
02-10-2005, 02:58 PM
I have driven a few post '01 330s but none with their CDVs removed. The CDV would help the clutch feel but not the DBW throttle. I can attest with certainty that the throttle sucks as much today as it did in '01.

undefined
02-10-2005, 03:02 PM
"We also sought to determine whether it exhibited the infamous DBW throttle delay. And, while the throttle is still not as immediate as the E36 M3 throttle response, it is about 90% of the way there (if you treat the '01 throttle response as"0" and the E36 M3 response as 100%). It also doesn't "blip" as well, but still it's SO much better than the '01s."

That was from the Silver ZHP he test drove right?

TD

JST and I both drove that car. I'm not sure why we didn't think it had the lag (maybe because we were driving it a bit mroe gently).

zcasavant
02-10-2005, 03:42 PM
I've driven mbr's car and it definitely has less lag than any non-zhp e46 I've ever driven. It was much easier to drive smoothly than Spacemonk's 2002 330ci.

There is a noticeable lag in my car, though it is much less than any 330 I've driven (with the possible exception of the ZHP--haven't driven one of those in a long time). The two 04 330Cis I've driven recently both exhibited annoying lag, though I don't feel as strongly about it as TD does.

While I've never driven a car with the CDV removed, I've never found the clutch effort in any non-M E46 to be particularly objectionable.

Rob
02-10-2005, 04:26 PM
the part that sucks is my favorite non-M e46 body is the pre face lift sports package. The only other nose I really like is the zhp nose. Well, it was a decent car, but I am now free of all of those problems and quirks. Instead, I have the wheel hop issue.

FC
02-10-2005, 04:28 PM
Instead, I have the wheel hop issue.

How bad is it, btw?

Rob
02-10-2005, 04:34 PM
It's not bad at all on my car so far. The only time it has happened were when I was intentionally trying to get the back wheels spinning. They spun. And they hopped.

But I have heard stories about it happening when appliying moderate power in second gear in the rain. I have tried to duplicate that, but all that has happened was I accelerated very, very quickly.

Jury is still out. The pressure is building for a fix. I am just not sure it's fixable b/c it might be an inherent design flaw with the rear cradle design. Or, in other words, the fix might be to buy back all of the cars with complaining owners. That would suck for Cadillac.
