1999 Titanium M3, power everything, moonroof, heated vadar seats, tinted windows,Dinan Stage 1 software, Dinan exhaust, X-brace, K&N drop in, seat covers, car cover. This car must go in order to make room for my new 2005 Audi S4.
All I can say is that if he really "must sell", he's at least $6K too high on price.
And I can't see buying an S4 (at $50K+) and relying on your modded M3 selling quickly.
Ah well.
Let's just say that it's not going to sell particularly quickly at that price.

I am constantly amazed at what people think they can get for their cars....Fool's paradise.

You mean I couldn't trade in my '02 330i with 55,000 miles for $38K towards an S4?

Funny. I just heard a quote of $22,000 wholesale for our 2002 330i. From a friend who's looking at buying the next generation.
My car has 18,000 miles and I guess I'd be lucky to get $25,000 from a private sale. "Cheaper to keep her," as they say.
Well, just to fan the fires, so to speak - if the car is in great condition, a '99 and has low miles, 25k is not so hard to do. At least around here. My car sold in a day for about that price. Granted, it was cosmetically next to perfect (including in the engine bay) and it was white, so what imperfections it did have were hidden, but still.

It does appear from some posts of Sarafil's and Jon's over at the Fest that the used market is much softer here on the east coast than it is on the west.
On a good day, that '99 with all of those mods and 50K miles *might* get $20K. But not a penny more.
I'm guessing wholesale is $16-17K.

one the one hand: O U C H.
on the other hand: it ain't bad. if you do the math, a 1999 was actually built and sold as new in 1998; in the year 2005, the car still commands 17k/40k money. not many cars can hold a line like that.

I've known of people to drive their Bimmers to the West Coast to unload them.

Its been that way for years... a good friend of mine used to have a wholesale car business -- he'd buy used cars (mostly off lease or newer Volvos, and the occasional BMW and MB) in the NY area and sell them in Phoenix, LA, San Francisco and Seattle. He averaged ~$2000 profit on the arbitrage -- after transport costs. He did that for about 3 years and did very well -- 5 to 10 cars a month. His margins started dropping in the end and he wanted to do something else, so he shut the business down.
