Not bad for 114,000 miles, huh?
It's got the PERFECT option list as well:
Sport Package
CD Player
Onboard Computer
That's IT. None of that extra crap, and most importantly, NO MOONROOF!
Over the next few months, that car will change quite a lot:
Partial interior gutting
Roll bar
Complete suspension repalcement, including SOLID bearings in place of bushings.
In a year or so, it's quite possible that it'll become an SCCA ITS/BMWCCA KP race car.
That's in beautiful shape for that many miles. And you're right, that is a perfect option list. Well, you can do without the OBC and CD player. But close enough.
So, sounds like you're gonna make it into a dedicated track car?

Actually, I can do without SP a lot more easily than the other two. :p
So you wouldn't buy my M3....

I kept having a hard time with the idea of gutting it. That and the M3 was brand new then.

OK...I'll admit that if you had gutted the car, I would have contemplated gutting you.
Planning any engine mods? I'm glad you're putting it on a diet, as I think the E46 323i is the only BMW that I've honestly not really enjoyed driving. That engine is entertaining off the line but gets tired really fast. Some weight savings, plus some easy bolt-ons, should help.

To most people, a car 10 months old is still brand new...
And, IIRC, your primary reasoning for not buying his M3 was that you didn't know where you would put it and other logistical issues. :?

Well, it's got a chip (probably Shark -- there's no note about it in the Vehicle History report) and a Dinan intake. It's pretty decent all the way up to 6800.
Very cool.
So does this mean one less M3 in ASP this year ?

No, the M3 will still autox.
Maybe we should look into a group buy from GC :D

The past few days, I've been mildly toying around with the silly concept of throwing my M3 into that mix. Then today we determined (read: I was told) that we have to replace the stove. With a stainless steel one with a convection oven, of couse. And while we're at it, let's get a price on tiling the kitchen floor.
So never mind.

You only need to spend half of your home equity loan on improving the house for the tax benefits :D
Seriously though all you really need to spend is $650 on some Koni SA's then find some used lowering springs cheap (I know of a set right now that might even be free.) Then swap the strut hats for camber and add that SSK guilt free. I was going to take this route but I keep getting talked into spending more money.

You don't have to spend ANY of it on your home for the tax benefits. Merely securing the loan with your house is enough to qualify for the deduction. (Subject to certain limitations, blah, blah, blah.)

Listen to how silly this is. Rationalizing spending 1K (or much more if I really wanted to) on my car to improve performance (driven by someone who is a significant performance liability) because the tax code would allow me to deduct my interest.
Alex
Listen to how silly this is.
Just think of how much the extra camber will help reduce tire wear. So you'd really be saving money in the long run.
Our tax laws really are stupid.

Nice and in great shape too! Im guessing you would like my dads 2000 323Ci Fern Green, SP, No roof, and OBC as well. My mom has a 1998 323is, Avus blue, bone stock as well. Only his only has 50K and is in even better shape in a lot of ways. Cant wait to see what you do with it. Its nice to see some of us out there still buy these cars without all the frills.

But I'm curious... why'd you pick an E46?

Nice car.
But I'm curious... why'd you pick an E46?
Because the price difference between an E36 and an E46 is not that significant when compared with everything else I'm going to have to buy, the car is faster, and, unlike the E36 325i, it doesn't have to compete against 330s in JP.
Nice car.

Isn't white paint the lightest, too? IIRC, that's why they painted the LTWs white, but maybe that's just a myth.
Nice car. You are insane, but nice car.

I thought they did that to ameliorate the effects of having no AC. :dunno:

White was the ///Motorsport color way back when, and BMW's stuck with it. As for why white, comofort is as good as any other guess. That's why I wanted it.

I thought he wanted to stay in SCCA Stock class. So no hat swapping, and no springs. But a set of Konis is very nice. Large front bar, the Toyo RA-1s and have fun. :)
If you want to feel the ride in Koni SA's only, that's what's on mine.
I thought he wanted to stay in SCCA Stock class.
He was thinking of tossing his hat into ASP, and I was trying to convince him (and in some way also convince myself) that it can be done on a budget.
