April 3rd in St. Pete. Wondering if anyone has attended a racing event, and thought that it's worth going? I went to an IRL event in Milwaukee when I was 10 years old, but don't remember much about it.

Can get a 3-day pass (reserved, grandstand) for as little as $80. Hmmm...

street grand prix can be a little difficult to follow, depending on where you sit (how much of the track you can see)

I went to one of the indy car grand prix's at the meadowlands (way before the IRL/ Champ car split) We had bleacher seats at the last left hand turn as car were accelerating to the start/finish line. That was all we could see of "live" racing. We did have a huge jumbo-tron in front of us showing the TV feed. If not for the jumbo-tron, we would have had no idea what was really happening on course.

The girl I was dating at the time, worked for Casio. Casio was primary sponsor for Dick Simon Racing, so we had pit passes, hospitality, and all that crap. Our tickets (freebies) were labeled 50 bucks each. If I had paid 100 for the two tickets, I would have been really pissed in the end

I had a feeling that it would be pretty tough to follow. Looking at the map of the circuit http://www.gpstpete.com/assets/trackmap2.jpg, it doesn't seem like you get to see much, other than the front straightaway. Well, I guess it depends on what's in the way of viewing the rest of the course.

I guess a good set of binoculars are a must-have.

A good scanner can't hurt either, if you are into evesdropping on the crew chatter

I've not made it to one in St. Pete for the event. Unless you do manage a good viewing spot, I'd get general admission tix if available so you can mill around and find a good vantage point. Though we had good tickets above the pit in San Marino for World Superbike, we hardly spent any time there. Just on the other side of the track from us in general admission was a gigantic screen and we caught all the action there.

Downtown St. Pete is one of my favorite places. If you consider where you are, it's worth going.
