Nice, but I think for the many people the competitor to the Boxster coupe, as least in NA, will be the new 'Vette.

If they can keep the price at around 50K and offer a more comfy interior (Boxster-like and not Elise-like), then it could be a big winner Lotus-wise. I think a lot of people will turned off because they have not heard of the brand, or because of the dealer network.

I'd love to get into one if it delivers on its promises (assuming I can swing a ~50K car). Particularly since I am lucky enough to be less than 20 miles from the dealer.

If it has a weight/power ratio of 10hp/lb and kick ass handling I'd consider it.

Lotus brand recognition among those that owuld be interested in this type of car is very high.

or because of the dealer network.

The local dealer (Criswell) is the only reason taht I am not on the waiting list for an Elise right now, and won't consider any type of Lotus until one of two things happen...another franchise opens within a distance that I am willing to travel for service or I move to an area where Criswell is not the local dealer. They are lying, theiving scumbags. I have had a number of experiences with them over the years (through their Chevy franchise and their used car operation) and the Lotus episode will be the last. The only consoling element is that I know that I am far from being the only one that's been treated like shit by them.

I'm certain. That is why I said it would be a winner by Lotus standards of volume. But if they hope to expand a lot (doubtful) they would need to get more exposure. So I agree with you.

To be honest, I know nothing of the dealer in Boston except that he is an Aston Martin dealer. One would THINK that means they are used to providing superior customer service, but who the hell knows.

yeah.

i love the idea of the lotus elise (right now, for other people) and an expansion of their presence in the US, but the dealer network is horrible and this is the northeast where the population is concentrated and wealthy. i can only imagine in other parts of the US.

nothing like strolling into the local chevy dealer (or subaru, for that matter), getting inexpensive maintenance and merrily going on my way.

having a dealer network is pretty important to me.

well there's a dealer in Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio...I don't see the problem :dunno:

Better than the MINI dealer network anyway.

we don't live THERE, aty.

we live HERE.

unless lotus suddenly decides to quadruple or even double its dealer network in New England, i can guarantee you that i'll never own a lotus.

HA!

www.lotus.com gets you to IBM.com (as they bought Lotus software way back when......)

OK - Useless trivia over for the day!

FYI - www.lotuscars.com is it.....

FWIW - The only dealer in Washington is Park Place in Bellevue. That's enought reason right there for me to not get one. (long story....)
