For anyone interested.

The profile looks good, IMO, but the rear doesn't flow very well. Maybe it will grow on me.

I wouldn't trust that the D-pillar line is genuine--the cutout in the disguised cars looks like part of the camouflage, and who knows whether it actually reflects what's underneath.

Two seat cars bore me.

Rear end looks rather Ferarri-like. I kinda like it.

I don't really understand the Boxster as a coupe. Half of it's charm is the convertible aspect. I suppose if they put a ton of hp in it and improved the handling even more . . .

The problem I have is that they seem to want to charge more. That wont fly with me (I'm sure they're trembling!). If one can get the Boxster S coupe with an MSRP of under 50K that would be great. Lighter, faster, better handling for 4K less.

Well, it might be the only convertible available that costs less than the hard top. That makes the convertible a bargain!!

I know... and it sucks.

Convertibles do nothing for me, I'd much rather have a coupe.

I much rather have a Boxster S than ANY recent 911 cabrio. I don't like it with the top up, but I find it quite attrcative with the top down. I'd consider the coupe if, like I said, it were cheaper with all the inherent benefits of swapping a heavy softop with a hardtop.

In general, I agree. But we are talking about the Boxster. I don't see much reason to have one at all if the top doesn't come down. Even then, it will be hard to compete with the Saturn Sky imo. (Especially as I wouldn't even think about a convert except for the wife likes them and I doubt she will be able to tell the difference in driving characteristics and one is, oh, 30 or 35k less than the other.)

I'd take a 911 GT3 cabrio, I guess. It would just cost a fortune. I was implicitly talking about non dry-sump engined 911's.

Call me what you want. The Boxster S is a hell of a car. Many Porsche people to this day say it is the best handling Porsche EVER. It is only held back because Porsche handicaps it with smaller motors. It is implied that a Boxster with a 911-sized engine would absolutely kill 911 sales because it would humiliate it.

Stuka will bitch about non-dry sump engines all he wants, but for people who will only ocassionaly brign their car to the track the "shitty" block has better anti-oil starvation features than just about any other non dry-sump engine out there.

A Boxster with a GT3 engine... that would kick ass.

Why not just get a C6 convertible?

Agree...

Two seaters are impractical for me though.

Agreed.

I would never want an M Roadster, but I'd love an M Coupe.

I'd never want a Boxster S, but I'd love a Boxster S Coupe, I think.

I'd also take a coupe any day over a convertible.

But those pics are pretty ugly IMO. Looks too much like a clam.

That's the thing. I rather have the targa top of the C6. And If I order a coupe, I'd get a stripped one, meaning mid 40's. A (basically) stripped Boxster S runs about $10K more.

The reality is that unless I find something I hate about the C6 coupe, that is probably the car I'll end up with. But I *think* from the reviews I'd like a Boxster S better as far as feel, handling, finish, refinement, etc. Again, all speculation until I drive them.

I'd really want to have a 911-targa like top. But they charge way too much for that optionand you still take a structural and weight penalty since they base it on the cabrio chassis, and not the coupe's.

That would be my ideal car. A mid-engine porsche with a targa top that weighs as much as the coupe and is just as rigid for Boxster money. I know, dream on.

hmmm, the elise is midengined with a targa top and cheaper than a boxster

looks cool.

i also prefer coupes to convertibles.

the boxster coupe is fascinating. it almost looks 911ish (bad idea?) and elise-like in some angles. i'd pay a little more money (the elise is already 42k) to have the boxster coupe, too --likely a much more comfortable car to "squeeze" into for me.

Don't get me started bonoboy, you know I love the Elise.

the elise and the boxster are both neat cars.

i don't think an enthusiast could lose buying either one, to be honest. i love the way porsche has tuned its engines to sound like its aircooled engines and that mechanical whirring of parts --something like that could tip the balance to me, if i had real interest in either car.

Boo.

If i want a Porsche coupe, I'll save up and get a 911. That thing looks like a Crossfire humped a 993 IDB.

if i could get a boxster with a racing derived engine, there is no question it is the superior vehicle dynamically but then also mechanically.
