not unexpected.
just don't know why all of the flagellation about the lack of love for the z4.
:D
in other news: they will now release a v8 m z4 and the e90m3 v8 is just about locked in for sure.
they also made great pains to say that the v8 engine is about the same weight as the e46m3's motor --thus weight will likely go down, if anything.

Too bad they're going to load up the E90M3 with so much luxury crap that it will weigh 500 lbs (or more) more than it should.
The one thing that really bothers me about the E90 itself right now is that power seats are part of the SPORT package. WTF?!

if the car loses 100 pounds (conceivable), but gains 70-100hp, but more importantly, 75-80ft#'s, it would be ideal, from my point of view.
for something that is not a sports car, it seems reasonable, these days, to expect something that weighs about 3300 pounds. the 330i is about 3200, right?

It's all about giving in to the sizzle that's easy to market. The 330i "ZHP" is a perfect example. Sure looked good on paper, but turned out to be mostly visual fluff.
Let's face it, the true auto enthusiast is a breed that's nearly dead. Not necessarily by choice, but by the fact that there's fewer and fewer real sports cars available out there.

I heard quite sometime ago that an M version of the Z4 was going to be produced, but A. It will not improve Z4 sales that much (remember they are down 33%) and B. It will be way over-priced. :|

yeah, you're spot-on with both points.
but it would be tempting since it would be faster than the equivalent generation m3 and since the z4 has a modern suspension (in the rear, notably), it could actually handle all of that power.
ugly as sin still and extremely expensive.

this info is from Roundel?
they don't tend to know any better than the average BMW forum regular, so I wouldn't put much stock into those claims

i usually look at it the opposite way, aty. i figure that they're such luddites and so behind the times in terms of information that when they usually report something, it's because of hard intelligence from speaking with a BMW NA rep so when they get around to publishing it, it usually is pretty accurate.

fair 'nough.
it's a safe bet that we will see a v8 e90 m3 and likely an M model z4.
no ever seems to want to make bets with me. esp. peeps who were up about the bangle styling and i wanted to bet someone it wouldn't work out (sales numbers seem to bear this out).

I have no doubt that we will see a V8 E90 M3.
I have serious doubts that they will build a V8 Z4, just because the price on those is already so stupidly high that it's hard to imagine any market other than Ron Stygar for a $65,000 Z4. But I've been wrong before. ISTM that an MZ4 makes sense, if at all, as a stop-gap between the E46 and E90 M3s, using leftover S54 engine capacity. Again, I've been wrong before.

exactly the scenario i'm seeing --stopgap year like when they put the s54 into the m roadster and m coupes for a year. not a long model run, but enough to draw some interest back to BMW from the car magazines.

How did I know you were going to chime in on this one!? Although, your comments about the ZHP always make me laugh since it just isnt true.
