I've been ramping up my car search lately. A used CTS-V is an expensive temptation.

Remember when Lexus introduced the IS300? They had a competition to cut a 30 second tv ad through a difficult to use web app. The winner's entry was used as a real TV ad and the winner was given an IS300.
This sounds similar.

i don't really remember that commercial series, clyde.
i was thinking more that they have actual cars that some of us bought (rwg) and would buy.
the sts-v, while it doesn't compare with the likes of the e60m5, is still probably price competitive with a 545i; the xlr-v series is still going to be cheaper than the entry level SL, the sl500 and a lot faster, too.
the cts-v has shown itself to be more than competitive.
They definately have a lot of things going right atm. They do need to face reality to some extent though - they can survive offering the V with the wheel hop problem b/c it is a first attempt and it is so good in so many other areas. But if they routinely have design flaws that interfere with "abusive" performance and refuse to fix them, they aren't going to be very successful. Right now, they are taking the same type of position BMW did with the early M3 engine failures - blaming it on the habits of the customer.
lemming, personally, I would compare the CTS-V with the 545i before I the STS-V. The size and availabe features are closer, I think. I am not exactly sure what I would compare the STS-V with in the BMW line up. For a Cadillac buyer, it will be simple - auto or manual? Regardless, the fact that we have the options is a great thing.
