View Full Version : Attn GM--Why no 2.5T engine in the Saabaru Aero?

As it is, the Saabaru is little more than a tarted up WRX. Nice, but with the Legacy GT out there (which is just as nice inside), it hardly makes sense to spend the extra money.

Adding the 2.5T engine from the Leg GT and the Forester would give the car something to differentiate from the WRX, and since it's a powertrain combination not offered by Subaru, it wouldn't step on that company's lineup, either. Using the 250 hp engine would allow Subaru to retain the crown of highest-performer with the STi, as well.

This seems to me such an obvious thing to do that I can't believe GM hasn't done it. That 250 hp engine in the WRX wagon shell would be a real blazing performer, too.

I'd buy that car in a second.

if the 9-2x has legs, then it's likely to happen in the next generation or as a last year of this model specialty car.

just a guess.

while i really enjoyed my wrx wagon while i had it, it was annoying to be stuck in boston traffic with that lag --and that's most of my commute. so, the f-xt was a much better commuter. you're right, of course.

that 9-2x 2.5t would also be priced higher than the STi.....

Yowch. I didn't realize until just now how much a loaded-out 9-2X goes for--31K, w/ sport, cold weather and premium packages (and if you don't get these packages, there is really no difference between the 9-2X and a WRX).

That's an awful damn lot--I thought it was more like 28.

New Saabs are REALLY overpriced. Price out a 9-3 Aero if you want clear proof. These loonies are asking more than you'd pay for a comparably equiped 330i. And it's FWD and built on the same platform as the Chevy Malibu.

Granted no one ever pays anything close to sticker on a Saab. Especially at model year end.

Yeah, I actually did that. It made me laugh more than a little.

it's why they typically depreciate like peugeots.

(or your run of the mill chevrolet).

since legacy GTs (non-limited trim) can be had for 26k, i'd advise most people, even enthusiasts, that it's easier to start with the bigger motor and dial in handling than to spend lots of money trying to deal with the EJ207's lag and peakiness.
