So I got my entire order of Bluetooth retrofit kit from Tischer finally, and the eject box has a different part number than the one that I ordered with.

According to Tischer, the new eject box part number that I have, 84109168940, supercedes 84216923415.

Only problem is, the new eject box is a pure eject box without the Bluetooth pairing button.

So, how do I pair my phone without the Bluetooth pairing button?

And if there is another way to pair my Bluetooth phone, do I need the eject box?

Typo in your second number - should be 84216933415. Other than that, the supercession is correct.

What's the big button on the end of the box with the Bluetooth logo?

Did you order "Adapter cable, eject box", 84-10-9-205-271, US list $10.20?

So, how do I pair my phone without the Bluetooth pairing button?

And if there is another way to pair my Bluetooth phone, do I need the eject box?

Are you certain that the new one supersedes the older eject box?

I remember that there were always two versions of the eject box -- one for the E46 that didn't have a BT pair button (since it had a separate button) and one for the E39 that had the pairing button built in.

I don't think you can pair without the pairing button. I always though it was kind of strange since you really don't pair phones that often, but the BT was only avail in the last year of the E39 run, so it was sort of a hack job to begin with (er... extension of the wired phone that had been avail earlier)...

Edit: my memory may be going... so trust Terry and not me ;-)

Wait, so let me get this straight, they superceded the eject box that has the pairing button with one without the button?

And to make it work you now have to buy an extra button and harness on top of the eject box?

Yes. Click here (http://www.tmk.com/transient/84216933415.pdf).

Non-Assist E46's didn't have a built-in pairing button and one needed to be added during Bluetooth retrofit. Back when I did my car, that was a separate button as BMW NA didn't want to make custom eject box inserts for US phones.

No, the big thing on your eject box should be the pairing button. Is there a connector on the bottom?

The eject box should have a button. The adapter cable was always needed as there is no other way to connect the 12-pin latch connector that's part of the SA644 phone prep to the pairing button.

When I did the BT in my E39, I only remember a single connector for the entire eject box -- essentially only there for the pair button...

That's right... E46 was just a button, E39 was an eject box with the button...

On the old version there is an eject button, and a pairing button.

The one I have just has the one big button that is the eject button with the bluetooth logo on it, and I do have connector on the bottom.

Actually, it feels like the big button on my eject box has two stages. Low pressure to perhaps act as the pairing button, then higher pressure to eject the tray?

Ok. So what's the problem?

No problem, I overthought the whole thing.

Apparently this button now acts both as the eject and pairing, versus the old version of the eject box which has separate eject and pairing buttons.

OK, so I got everything installed, except the eject box.

The eject box is installed, but the power connector from the eject box is the same latch connector as the power connector that I am supposed to connect the eject box into.

So the adapter cable you posted, 84109205271, is this what is needed?

Can you clarify, particularly with pictures of both ends?

The existing car end should have a multi-pin female connector that should look something like this:

What you have exactly will depend on the car production date and which phone prep package was configured. The loose end you see may just be a 12- to 18-inch long adapter cord.

One would expect the eject box to have a matching plug.

So the adapter cable you posted, 84109205271, is this what is needed?
That's what this month's ETK says. There have been errors in the past, particularly on parts like this where the cars were built with many different configurations.

In-focus close-up pictures of the eject box cable and the car cable may help. Preferably with head-on views of the pin areas.

The eject box plug looks exactly the same as the plug in the picture you posted with the same number of pins.

Going by the picture of the power adapter, it looks like that's what I need.
